She came back through the front door. The lane's were heading back home, glad that Trent was gone, but frustrated that her crush had come back just because he had said that if she was older that he'd take her out. The sound of someone clearing their throat brought her out of her thoughts.
"We need to talk," Helen began.
"About?" Daria asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Your reactions to Trent being here."
"What are you talking about?" she asked evenly. However, she had a bad feeling that this conversation was going to go south real quick.
"I suggest you come clean and admit you have some sort of a crush on Trent."
Daria gave her mother a hard look before sighing, "and, what if I do?"
"I don't want you getting into a relationship with someone like him. He isn't going anywhere and you don't need that albatross on your neck dragging you down."
"And why are you taking an interest in my nonexistent dating life?"
"You need to quit being so judge mental of those at Lawndale High. Jane and Trent's parents are hippies that don't realize that the 60's are over and that they need to grow up. Because of that, Jane and Trent are like the way they are. You need to be around other people and take off that damn anti-social mask that you seem to enjoy wearing."
"Just what makes you think that he'd even notice me as more than Jane's friend? I'm not going out of my way to get his attention like Quinn would, that attention whore."
"Daria," Helen said in a tone of warning, "that's your other problem, you can't respect the interests of Quinn and her friends."
"Respect?"
"I know what you are going to say, so save it. Judging people like you do will leave you an old, grey island. There has to be a nice boy if you would stop acting like your Arctic Circle aunt of yours. She'll never be married because her attitude is just as bad if not worse than yours is!"
"Why would I want a horny, useless, brainless, witless, buffoon who just wants to have his penis inside of the closest girl that'll spread her legs for him? At least Trent, while he's lazy, but he doesn't want a girl like my sister," Daria spat out and stormed upstairs.

"Locker made you mad?" Jane questioned after Daria slammed her locker.
"Fight between me and the female parental unit. The cliche thing to do is to run into Trent's arms, but I'm not going to do that because that would make your yenta happy brain have an orgasm."
Jane grinned, "what will you do then?"
"Keep being the thing she doesn't want me to be," Daria replied and the two went on to homeroom.
