He hadn't wanted this confrontation, seeing that he was the brother of the one he had broken up with. However, it appeared that he couldn't avoid Trent anymore.
"I guess this is where you leave me in a pool of my own blood?" Tom asked.
"I ought to, but you aren't fully to blame. All three of you acted pretty dumb in this little triangle," Trent began.
"You blame all three of us?"
"There an echo?"
"You drunk?"
"No, just been listening to a lot harder stuff after you kissed Daria. Only a complete idiot would kiss his girlfriend's best friend. So, I guess a village is missing their idiot."
"It was practically over..."
"But it wasn't officially, dick. You went ahead and did it before actually braking up with Janie. Just how dumb can you be?"
"If you're done insulting me..."
"You'll do it again, won't you?"
"Huh?"
"If your relationship with Daria can't be saved you'll kiss someone else won't you?"
"You don't think I can learn from history?"
"No, I think your penis can't learn from history," Trent finished and while humming Pantera's 'Walk', he walked away from Tom.

"If you are going to rehearse a new song, could you pick a different one?" Daria asked.
"Why did you act like your sister would when you got in that car with Tom?"
Her eyes widened. Trent thought that what she had done with Tom had been a Quinn move?
"Quinn's scared of..."
"Come off it Daria...you know that she'd pull off a move like that, but come to think about it, what you did was one step worse."
Daria looked out the window. She was used to cutting people with the knife of truth, but now that the blade was in her belly, she couldn't help to not like the feeling it created.
"You think I'm worse than my sister?"
"Your inexperience with my gender made you stupid, but you should have had enough sense in that head of yours not to get into that car with Tom, but I guess I overestimated how smart you are," he said in a tone of disappointment. That tone felt like a death blow to Daria.

"Ah, up to welcome your sister home huh?" Jane joked.
"Why did you keep it going when you knew it was over?"
"Hold it hold it hold it, I know what you are doing. Daria already told me about the verbal thrashing you gave her and I can only imagine what you might have said to Tom. Ok, we were all stupid, I should have broken up with Tom, shoved Tom onto Daria and watched the fireworks. Now, can I move on with life and not get a verbal slashing from you?"
"Why were you trying to shove an under aged girl onto me? Were you trying to get me thrown in jail?"
Jane bit her lip. Trent had swerved and she wasn't ready for the swerve.
"Well..."
"You just did that just to get some amusement didn't you?"
Jane looked down, "at the time, no."
"No?"
"You wouldn't leave me alone about Jessie and I figured I needed to hook you up with someone that was better than Monique...but I didn't go that far with Jessie..."
"Because you wanted to date a guy who was the closest thing to a male version of Daria you could get? There something you need to tell me?"
"I'm not a lesbian, damn it!"
"I didn't say you were attracted to all girls, just Daria."
Jane bit her lip. "Ok, I do admit that that those two have several similarities...but I'm attracted to men. And, she was seventeen for part of that time I was trying to get you guys together."
"Was that school project part of your yenta act?"
"Well...uh...kinda..." Jane answered hesitantly. "But when I met Tom I decided it would be good for her to be distracted by you so she wouldn't act all weird again like she did when I was on the track team."
"Doesn't your best friend deserve something better than me or Tom? I'm a struggling musician and he'll just kiss another girl behind Daria's back."
"Tom's not that stupid."
"No, but his penis is," he finished and headed for his room.
"He's gotten all three of us now," Daria quietly commented from behind Jane who turned.
"How much of that did you hear?"
"All of it."
"He's acting like an ass and I don't..."
"No Jane, he's acting like me. Is what he's said to us not the truth? Hasn't he cut us with cold, sharp truth?"
"Yes, but he didn't..."
"We all acted stupid...there's no getting around that. Now, are we going to have to kiss each other so you can figure out your confused sexual orientation?"
"No."
"I'm not going to be in a relationship that started out by me acting worse than Quinn would if she wanted to steal a boy from one of her fashion freak friends."
"That was a little harsh from my brother to say you know."
"The truth hurts, and I needed a little of that pain."
