It had only been a week, and Daria had concluded that this summer sucked. However, given the alternative, she'd rather be out of school than still in school. Try to inform everyone that she was now dating Tom was grating on her nerves. She sighed, picked up her phone, checked to make sure Quinn wasn't on the line, and dialed a number.
"Hello."
"Aunt Amy..."

Helen bit her lip. Her daughter was sitting on the couch, a travel bag on the floor, and appeared to be waiting.
"Daria..."
"Let's cut to the chase. You don't want me around the house doing nothing. I don't want to be in Lawndale due to the fact I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that everyone seems to be acting weird that I'm dating Tom. So, I called aunt Amy..."
"Amy...?"
"I'll be staying with her for a couple of weeks so whatever plan you had to get me out of the house you can just cancel them." Daria finished, her a car horn, grabbed her bag and ran out of the house.
"Why didn't I see this coming? Well, at least she told me where she was going," Helen sighed. She was going to have her go to that camp O'Neill was running, but it appeared that Daria was running off with her favorite family member. It slightly rubbed her the wrong way that Amy could relate with Daria better, but she realized that the two were almost the same person.

"Now this is a vacation, no stupid people, no sister, no family," Daria began and Amy smirked.
"Burned out on stupid I see," Amy commented.
"It wasn't just that..." Daria began and told her aunt everything.
"Ouch, let me guess, you and Jane aren't on the best of terms right now?"
"Frosty."
"Mmmmm, and the other kids that attend your school aren't understanding why at first Tom was dating Jane and now is dating you."
"Right, plus I'm not comfortable explaining that whole situation."
"That's understandable."
"I was a fool."
"No, you were acting like a teenage girl," Amy countered.
"And that's what I hate about it. I did something that Quinn might have done, that is, if she weren't afraid of any sort of physical contact with any boy."
"Or your aunt Rita," Amy added and Daria smirked.
"I don't see why I even started liking him...I guess...he was the furthermost thing from Trent I could get."
"Trent?" Amy asked.
Daria looked out at the expanse of the ocean, the waves crashing against shore. The wind lightly blew as the Atlanta Ocean meet the North American shore.
"Trent is Jane's older brother...I had a crush on him until..."
"Go on," Amy encouraged.
"Until I found out that he couldn't commit."
"How did you discover this?"
"I asked him to come up with thirty seconds of music for a class assignment, but he failed to come though."
"Hmmmm, not coming through on a class assignment does equate with not able to commit romantically," Amy said. Daria bit her lip. The balance scale her aunt had presented her which didn't seem to balance, even though Daria thought it did.
"Ok, maybe I sort of put too much weight on it..."
"Sort of?" Amy asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Ok ok ok, so I let a class assignment tell me that he wasn't going to be the right one for me."
"And, did you ask if you could get outside help?"
Daria chewed on her lip. That thought hadn't occurred to her.
"No," she finally answered.
"Why didn't you think about it then?"
"It was Jane's idea," Daria defended.
"Ah, Jane unilaterally decided to bring her brother on this project...what does that tell you?"
Daria sighed, "That she was meddling once again."
"That would be a correct conclusion to come to."
"I guess with Jane dating Tom at the time, and then Trent...I guess I wasn't thinking all that much."
"That too is understandable."
"Now though I feel like I wasted all that time and emotional energy on that crush."
"Did he even know?"
"no."
"You sure your feelings are completely gone?"
Daria bit her lip in thought, "How would I be able to tell if I've still got...?"
"Well, the fastest way is to kiss him," Amy informed with a smirk. Daria flushed red and Amy continued to smirk.
"Is there another way?"
"Well, not if you don't want to take months to slowly figure it out."
Daria sighed, "No, I don't."
"Then, kiss him."

Trent smiled to himself. Daric and Angel had called him and they were wanting to re-join the band. He told him where there next gig was and they said they'd be there.
"Yo!" Trent called, hearing the knock at the door.
"Trent?"
"Oh, hey Daria," he greeted.
"Heard your next gig was going to be near the art colony where Jane is....mind if I ride with you?"
"Nah, you can tag along," Trent replied with a smile.
"Don't let this inflate your ego, but you were right about Tom."
"I know, and I've got no ego to inflate...well...maybe a tiny one," he replied with a half grin.
"Did you know?"
"Know what?"
"So you didn't know that I had...ummmm..."
"A crush on me?"
"Yeah," she said, looking down at the floor.
"It hit me just before that project...I'm still sorry about that. I don't know why the hell I said 'yes' to that to start with."
"I wouldn't have asked you, but Jane insisted on bringing you in on it."
"That sounds about right."
"I'm about to do something stupid so don't laugh or judge me for this," she said, leaned in and kissed him. Trent smiled to himself and pulled her into his lap.
"I don't think that was stupid or something to laugh at," Trent said, his forehead pressed against hers.
"no," she quietly responded.
"You and Tom not working?"
"Too much work..."
"And they say I'm a slacker," he said and laughed.
"I guess...I guess that's why I might have been drawn to you. I guess all I want to do is lay around and work on my own writing."
"Then, why don't we be slackers together?" he offered with a grin and Daria smirked. Jane would freak out and Tom...well, she didn't care what Tom thought.
