Tim Drakesford stretches and opens his eyes. He turns off his alarm and begins to prepare himself for another day of school. He heads out of his bedroom and goes straight to the kitchen. The city's newest crime fighter reaches into the refrigerator and pulls out a jug of juice and the gallon jug of milk. Setting them aside, he quickly gets down the cereal, bread, and bowl. He doesn't notice that he had a silent watcher. Ms. Drakesford watches her son first poring the cereal and then the milk into the bowl. She kept quiet so that he wouldn't be startled and spill something. He then pulls out two slices of bread and heads for the toaster.
'At times it seems that he raises himself.' she thinks watching as he loads up the bread into the toaster. 'He acts too grown up for his age.' She watches as Tim watches the toaster. 'He must be timing it again. The boy's always been like that. He is probably the only one I know that can program a VCR, fix a computer, and probably is going to end up going to M.I.T. What is starting to bother me is that he's spending a lot of time with Botsford's daughter. I have nothing personally against Sally Botsford, it's just a professional thing. District attorneys and defense lawyers are natural enemies in the court room. No, I'm more worried about my son's heart. He's smitten with Sally's daughter and I don't know if he's old enough to handle that.'
"Morning, mom." Tim greets as he spreads the butter on his toast.
"How did you...?"
"I saw you out of the corner of my eye, that is, your silhouette." Tim answers as his mother comes fully into the kitchen and starts making herself a pot of coffee.
"We need to talk."
"Did I do something...?"
"No, it's about Becky."
"Becky?"
"I'm concerned about the amount of time you're spending with her."
"Why would that be a problem?"
"I don't think you're ready to interact with girls in that way."
"When will I be?" he asks evenly. Ms. Drakesford bites her lip. It was way too early in the day to get in an intellectual battle with her son.
"I think you ought to curve your time with her."
"And do what with it? You were the one to make the agreement with Becky's mom for me to stay at her house until you get back home. Are you going to give me a spare key to the house then?"
She sighs realizing that she hadn't thought this through all the way. "Just be careful with your heart. I've never seen you so interested in a girl before."
"I am of that age to be interested in the opposite gender aren't I?"
"You're a little ahead of the curve."
"I seem to be always ahead of the curve." Tim states getting up to wash his dishes.
"Ok, but if you are having any issues don't hesitate to talk to me. I'm of that opposite gender as well." she says teasing.
"I won't forget that." he says and picks up his backpack. "I better get going."
"I'll see you tonight." she replies and Tim walks out the back door.
***
"You've been quiet this morning." Becky comments as the two, along with Bob, walk to school.
"Had a conversation with my mother this morning about 'us'." Tim starts. "She's just being an over protective parent, but I don't know if she'll stay neutral or not." Becky kisses him on the cheek and squeezes his hand tighter.
"Things will work out." she says smiling which makes Tim smile.
***
Tim smiles as he watches Becky and Violet talking animatedly about something he'd care nothing to know about. His super hearing picks up something that makes his blood run cold.
"So, this is the new city that infidel MathWiz protects. I'll just have to blow something up to get his attention."
'Darn it. It's Arabian Bomber. He's found me again. No, I'm not going to get Becky involved in this. I've already screwed up enough against her villains.' he thinks and ducks into an alley while the girls continue to make their way down the street. "Calcu...,late!" Tim says and transforms and takes to the skies.
***
"Hahaha! Look at the infidels run. they are paying for their American ways." Arabian Bomber says smiling at the destruction he'd already caused to the downtown district. "Now, where's that...,"
"Right here!" MathWiz shouts and the mad bomber is hit with a flying kick sending him to the floor of the roof he was standing on.
"So, you came, good. Now, I'll be able to destroy you once and for all." he says and activates the rocket pack on his back. The bomber starts materializing bombs and begins to chunk them at MathWiz. The hero starts knocking them up high into the sky not causing any damage.
"You've got to change your methods of attacking me, Bomber. I'm not going to let myself get blown up nor will I allow you to cause any more damage to the city."
"Oh Yeah? Then...," Arabian Bomber says and launches himself far above the building he'd been standing on. "Then stop this!" and bombs start raining down.
***
Becky had just split off from Violet and was turning to see if Tim was still behind her when her super hearing picks up the fight.
"Tim...," she growls out. "We're going to have a long talk after this. C'mon Bob. Word up!" Becky shouts and takes to the air.
***
"I must hand it to you, you American super hero. I thought you'd be dust by now. Unfortunately, you're just a stupid...,Ahhh!" the bomber shouts as a monkey latches itself to his face. "Get off me you stupid American monkey! I'm not a banana! Did you not hear me?! I'm allergic to monkey hair!" While the Arabian struggles with Captain Huggy Face, WordGirl circles behind him and unstraps his jet pack from his back. "What the...,Ahhh!" he shouts falling. Huggy jumps off Arabian's face and is caught by WordGirl.
"Good work, Huggy...,what the heck!" she shouts as she watches Arabian grab ahold of a power line and starts using it to get to the nearest pole.
"I wear a rubber suit for just such an occasion. I didn't think MathWiz would be such a coward as to let a girl help him. Especially an American girl who doesn't know that she shouldn't be showing her face...,Ahhh!" he is interrupted by MathWiz smacking him the rest of the way to the ground after Arabian had gotten to a pole.
"Leave her out of this, Arabian." MathWiz growls.
"Oh, but I can't. She stuck her nose in something she shouldn't have." Arabian responds and starts to throw bombs up at WordGirl and Huggy. MathWiz quickly heads upward and starts deflecting them away from WordGirl with his fists.
"Get to the ground! It'll be easier to stop this madness on the ground!" MathWiz shouts deflecting the last bomb.
"Not today, Team Alphanumeric!" Arabian says and he uses a smoke bomb as cover and vanishes.
***
He knew she was mad at him and he couldn't blame her for it. He had gone out on his own just because he wanted to protect her from Arabian.
"Before you let me have it with a heavy reference dictionary, may I have a chance to explain myself?" Tim asks.
"You better make it good. I'm not happy with you at the moment." Becky responds. Huggy sighs and decides to stay out of the squabble for now. Fortunately, they were in the secret spaceship hideout and wouldn't be disturbed.
"The first time I encountered that mad man he was trying to blow the city courthouse up. That day, however, my mother was there. That was the longest day of my life. I've still had nightmares about that still to this day."
Becky's shoulders slump and her anger fades. "I'm sorry." she says and hugs him. "But you've got to realize I'm not as fragile as normal people."
"I know, but he's crazy."
"I know. What sane criminal would use a power line to stop his fall?"
"I won't do that again, I promise."
"I'm going to hold you to that."
***
"Hahaha! This dirty bomb will go off in five minutes, and the city will be...,Argh!" Arabian says as he takes a team attack from MathWiz and WordGirl.
"Give up!" MathWiz shouts.
"Never! Ahh!" he shouts as once again Huggy latches on to his face and he starts sneezing.
"Please tell me you can disarm bombs." WordGirl asks.
"No. Can you throw things out of orbit?" MathWiz asks.
"I've never tried."
"Then let's see if our combined strength is enough." MathWiz says looping the bomb in a rope. the two grab the other end and begin to spin. MathWiz shouts out and the two throw the lassoed bomb. He watches as the bomb heads higher and higher. The dirty bomb achieves orbit and continues past the planet out into space where it detonates.
"Phew, we did it." WordGirl states.
"Good work, Team Alphanumeric." a man says coming out of a black car states while his partner picks up the unconscious bomber and cuffs him.
"Hey, aren't you the same NSA(1) guys from the last time?" MathWiz asks.
"Yes. The United States Government thanks you for your help." the first says and the two agents , along with Arabian in the back, drive off.
"I think that's the first time I've been thanked by someone representing the federal government." WordGirl says.
"Nice job, Huggy. He'll be seeing you in his nightmares now." MathWiz says and the Trio laughs.
