"Fine, I'll clean out the garage this weekend."

Helen looked shocked at her daughter's admission.

"We'll have fun going through all those things that were bought for all those vacations that the two of you couldn't take because one of you had to work," Daria finished and Helen bit her lip hard.

Daria continued,"You two are certainly a good example of what it's like to be married," she sarcastically remarked and she headed towards her room.

"Why are you so eager to be so damn anti-social?" Helen asked. It was the only thing she could think of to retaliate for her daughter's jab at their marriage. Unfortunately, it was a truthful jab.

"Because, everyone at camp was just as stupid as those at school."

"Is tom the only reason you are even slightly out of your shell?"

"I was forced out of it by Tom if you care to remember. Besides, I don't know what Tom has to do with me not wanting to visit a place that I hated."

"Because I bet you'd go if Tom was going."

"Tom wouldn't be caught dead at a place like that."

"I guess I should be glad you're dating a guy like Tom," Helen began. She knew that she was about to touch a subject that her daughter wasn't going to like, but she had to put her in her place after the whole thing about her and Jake not being able to take vacations because of his and her work. But, if she were honest with herself, she would realize that he was only 15-20% to blame while the rest rested squarely on her shoulders.

"Had you dated Trent your chronic laziness would have been encouraged by that do-nothing boy." Helen finished.

Daria stiffened. That comment had rubbed her the wrong way, but she didn't know why it had rubbed her the wrong way. Her and Trent weren't more than friends, but that comment had hurt. It was as if her mother had said that Daria's Melody Powers stories all sucked.

"Is that the only reason you are glad I'm not dating Trent?"

"That and the fact that most likely you'd be knocked up by him."

The look that Daria gave her mother was as cold as liquid nitrogen. Jake and Quinn took a few steps away from the two.

"First you get paranoid that I'm having sex with Tom, now you say I'd be so irresponsible that I'd sleep with Trent if I were dating him? Do you think so little of me mother?"

"You can't handle guys like Quinn can."

"There you go again!" Daria exploded. "Once again you compare me to Quinn!"

"Why can't you not be so guarded about how you look>?!"

"What, so those idiots at school can drool over a second Morgendorffer sister!?" Daria fired back. "All those guys get from Quinn are an empty bank account and blue balls!"

Quinn flinched. Daria had told the truth with that comment.

"At least I don't have to worry about Quinn having sex." Helen shot back.

Daria glared, "And why do you have to worry about me and my sex life, or the lack there of?"

"because, this is your first relationship and if you feel as if sex will keep it going..."

"Keep it going? You'd think I'd sleep with someone just to keep the relationship going?"

"I can't be sure what strange ideas Jane has put in your head. Had her parents..."

"Strange ideas?"

"You know her parents weren't the most involved."

"I'll grant you that, but Jane's also a virgin," Daria growled.

"Or that's what you think." Everyone lies."

Daria growled low in her throat. That line had been uttered by Greg House(1). While true, it wasn't in this particular instance.

"Is this all because I don't hang around Jodie, the joiner, or Kevin, the dumbest student I've ever met?"

Quinn hid a smile and a giggle. She had had no idea why she had went after the dummy or why Britney was with him, although, the blond cheerleader wasn't the brightest bulb on campus.

"You don't have to judge everyone with that cold attitude you get from your aunt Amy! Honestly, do you want to be like her?"

"At least she thinks for herself, unlike a lot of people I know. And, she's not in a marriage that is dictated to by her boss because he can't get along with his female employee that he'll only let become partner if she sleeps with her."

Jake was ready to explode. Quinn was ready to faint, and Helen...Helen felt as if she had been kicked in the gut. That bit of truth had been brought down like a sledgehammer. Getting no verbal retaliation, Daria exited. She knew she had won the war, but why had the Trent comment cut like a knife.

'So I like doing nothing sometimes...is that a crime?' Daria thought while laying on her bed. 'It doesn't matter though, it wouldn't have worked out anyway,' she sighed. There was that nagging thought that she was letting O'Neill dictate whether or not Trent was viable to date or not.

'She just wants me to keep my brain power and dress like Quinn...the perfect daughter.' she thought bitterly. 'I'm supposed to be the best because my cousin is already married...damn Rita and my mother's need to fight each other,' she swore. Getting up, she headed over to her computer. Maybe Melody killing more Communists would put her mind at ease.

"Or maybe," she thought viciously, "Some Arabs.
