This starts postmortem of the episode. Warning, underaged drinking takes place in this one.

Quinn watched, her head peeking around the corner, as her mother and her sister had a staring contest. It looked like all this talk about Daria and Tom having sex was about to come to a head.

"I'm getting tired of this, mother," Daria began, her monotone low and absent of sarcasm, "I couldn't believe that you thought I'd be stupid enough to have sex here with both you and dad only going to be out for a few hours. Do you not think that maybe, just maybe, I would be to scared to do something like that?"

Helen bit her lip. Was she being paranoid just because her eldest was in her first real relationship.

"Daria, you've got to allow me to be a little paranoid..."

"A little paranoid? You burst into my room thinking I had Tom with me me and we were going to have sex, why would I do that with you in the house?"

"Yeah mom, she's too timid to do something like that," Quinn interjected, "I mean, she was sooo timid when we were gone to bail her friend out of jail that weekend you left on that retreat."

"Daria Marie Morgendorffer!" Helen exploded.

"Oops," Quinn said realizing that she might have made another mistake. She quickly retreated away from the kitchen, but not far enough to not hear what would happen.

"That is why I want you to make more friends! Jane is going to get into trouble because of the lack of parenting her crazy mother as bother to give her children! You need to start hanging around Jodie and the rest of her friends so Jane doesn't drag you down!"

"She's a joiner, I don't like joiners," Daria growled.

"You need to get rid of that damn mask of yours! You'll just end up bitter and alone like your aunt Amy! I won't have my daughter end up just like her!"

"And what would you have me act like?"

"Can't you be both the highly intelligent girl that doesn't have to feel like she's got to hide both her feelings and her appearance? Can't you actually give people a chance and not judge them by standards you yourself can never hope to hold up for the rest of your life?"

Daria closed her eyes. Quinn saw, for a moment, a flicker of pain, and that was something she had never seen from her sister.

'Oh boy,' Quinn thought.

"Ok, you've been silent all day, spill," Jane commanded from her easel.

"Jane, this can't be told in my current state of mind," Daria replied.

"So, shall I get you drunk then?" she joked.

"Actually," Daria said before sitting up, "that might not be a bad idea in this case."

"Huh?"

"I'm serious. After last night's blow out I think I need to kill some brain cells with alcohol."

"Hmmmm, then, let's see if the barkeep is up," Jane said and the two left Jane's room and walked over to Trent's door.

"Uh..."

"Trent's the only one that can get into the liquid courage," Jane smirked and knocked loudly on the door.

"Yo!" Trent called out and the two girls came into his room.

"We're in need of some liquid courage," Jane began.

"Uh oh," Trent began.

"I and my mother had a fight last night...I'm not in the best of moods at the moment and maybe passing out might just do the trick," Daria answered.

"Damn, c'mon," he said and the three headed down stairs.

Jane laid there, passed out on the couch while Trent and Daria continued to drink.

"She wants me to behave like both myself and Quinn. She wants a perfect daughter that can show off both her intelligence and her beauty. If I weren't so scared to do it I would have
sex with Tom just to spite her," Daria said.

Trent looked concerned, "Uh..."

"I know, there's a lot of risk in doing that and with my luck that pink condom he had would have broken and I'd be knocked with a little Slone," Daria said taking another gulp of the brandy.

"Pink condom? I've seen those in the bathroom of the Zon...or was it McGrundies?"

"Damn, he probably picked up and was going to either show it to Jane so they could joke around about it or joke around with it with me," Daria replied.

"I wouldn't trust those condoms. I've heard they break too easily."

"And you'd know this because of all the sex you have had right?"

"Nah, I wouldn't do that with Monique."

"You didn't? Why?" she asked and started pouring herself a scotch.

"Damn, you've got a hollow leg. No, I just dated her because I needed an escape from the band."
"But the band is the only thing you actually care about and take serious."
"And it takes too much of my energy. It'll kill me if this keeps up."

"Then why do it?"

"It's the only thing that I know I can do that doesn't restrict me in some way. But, I'll have to make some sort of a decision whether to keep going or not."

"I can't be more like Quinn...I just can't. So I went to bail you and Jane out of jail...what is the big deal. somebody had to bail her out of jail..." Daria growled and took another swig of scotch.

"You look hotter in that black skirt anyway," Trent said with a smile.

"You're just saying that because you think it'll make me feel better."

"Nah, Jane has told me that I always start telling the truth about people just before I pass out."

"Do you still think I would have looked good in that tie-dye thing we saw when went shopping for Jane's birthday?"

"Yeah," he replied with a grin.

"Why did you say yes? Why did you stupidly agree to giving us thirty seconds of music? Why couldn't you tell me you couldn't do it and then crush my crush on you I had?"

"Guys are stupid."

"Tom's demonstrated that several times."

"You make us stupid. That's why you sometimes have to be the brain in the relationship."

"But I'm always the brain."

"And a hot brain at that," he commented with a smile.

"Are you trying to sweet talk me into your bed?"

"No, I don't do drunk sex."

"No, that's more stupid than sober sex."

"Yeah. I think I'll head for bed."

"Hmmmm, let's just keep our clothes on. You've been drunk before and I'll probably need your experience the next morning," she said and Trent laughed and the two stumbled upstairs.

Jane had her hands on her hips. Her brother and her best friend were clothed so nothing happened, but still...

'Well, I guess she thought she would need someone to help her through her hangover. This would be more entertaining a year and a half ago, oh well, at least they didn't have sex or that would have caused a hell of a lot of trouble.' Jane mused and went to make coffee for the three of them. They were going to need it.
