508: One J at a Time

While looking over what I've done, I realized that I didn't do 508 within this collection. I've got a one-shot up that follows the DT Files rules but was made before the Files went up. I'm twisting the episode more so what was requested could be done. Tom will be acting like a pig here so those that have sympathy for the lug might want to avoid this part. All you tom haters enjoy.

I had to go to Outpost-Daria and re-read the review of this episode. I do that as a quick reference guide since I don't have a DVD drive on this machine. See if you guys like this one.

Helen approached her younger daughter's bedroom door. Helen had realized that Quinn might be trying to find a boyfriend just to out-do her older sister and to show her mother that she was mature, but that wasn't what Helen wanted, nor did she believe that Quinn wasn't mature. Helen needed to know everything about her daughter's first boyfriend. Daria having one was a significant milestone in Daria's life.
Then Helen bit her lip remembering how Daria got with Tom in the first place. She sighed and shook those thoughts off. Tom wouldn't do the same mistake twice would he?

"Quinn, can I talk to you?" Helen asked while knocking on the door.

"Uh, sure mom." Quinn said. She was able to note the tone in her mother's voice that barred argument from the younger Morgendorffer daughter.

"Listen sweety, I think you might have gotten the wrong message, and for that, I apologize. I didn't mean just because Daria is going out with one boy doesn't meant that you dating many guys makes you less mature than she is. Plus, level with me, a dinner with just Tom being here will put out of the spotlight and you like the spotlight now don't you?" Helen asked and Quinn's cheeks turned pink.

"Well...oh alright, I'm sort of jealous of what Daria has and you giving her all this attention just because she's going steady with Tom.."

"Quinn, listen, your sister having a boyfriend is a milestone. You know that her attitude isn't one that most boys like. Odds are that Tom can put up with her to the point where could marry her."

"Marry her?"

"It's a possibility and I just want to get to know him better. Besides, you and I both know how she got with Daria so I want to see if it could happen again. I want to spare Daria that pain if I suspect Tom would do that again, ok sweety."

"Ok mom, I understand, I guess I just wanted..."

"Me to make a big deal about you having a steady boyfriend? The way Daria has reacted to this dinner on Sunday tells me that you wouldn't want that either since you wouldn't approve of your father's behavior." Helen said and Quinn nodded. "Ok sweety, I'm going to go do some paperwork downstairs." Helen said and left.

'Tom making the same mistake twice? No, I won't flirt with him, I'll just dress a little more revealing, not too noticeable, but noticeable enough for Tom. He fails this test there will be hell to pay.' Quinn thought. 'And next time, only tell Stacy about trying to find a steady boyfriend. Sandi probably wants me off the market so that she can get even more boys to date.' Quinn thought and went over to her closet to pick out an outfit.

"Should I be ready if you go running into the night straight for my place after dinner Sunday?" Jane asked Daria after the last class that Friday afternoon.

"I'll probably just head for the rock quarry and end it there." Daria retorted.

"Are you sure Helen can handle your father? I mean if the bills come in..."

Daria let out a sound of disgust and said, "Don't say that. Tom comes from old money. If Tom starts talking about how much his family spends in a month dad will bust a blood vessel or have a second heart attack."

"I wish you luck then, Morgendorffer." Jane said with a smirk.

"I can't believe Quinn gave up her search for a steady boyfriend." Sandi complained to Tiffany and Stacy.

"Maybe she felt like she wasn't ready for a steady boyfriend." Stacy offered.

"But I'd be ready for a steady girlfriend, ladies." Charles said.

"Get lost Up-Chuck!" Sandi shouted.

"Feisty." he purred at Sandi who snarled and tried to slap Charles but he ducked and smirked.

"Miss me..." Charles said.

"Let's see if this one misses!" Sandi shouted and went to slap him again but Up-Chuck dodged again. Stacy covered her mouth trying to stifle her laughter. She too was disgusted with the pervert, but watching him annoy the heck out of Sandi was quite funny. She retreated over to her locker, far from Tiffany's ears and gave out a laugh.

"What's tickled my precious flower?" a voice asked. Stacy smiled and greeted Ted with a smile.

"Oh, Up-Chuck is messing with Sandi and annoying the hell out of her."

"Get back here Charles Ruttheimer and take your slapping like the little pervert you are!" Sandi shouted chasing the school's pervert down the hall. This caused Ted and Stacy to laugh at the chase scene playing out before them.

"Why are you wearing that?" Daria asked.

"Wearing what?" Quinn asked innocently.

"You're wearing a tank-top and shorts." Daria pointed out.

"It's warming up Daria, or do you not notice that through that jacket you always wear?" Quinn questioned. "I mean, you even wear that thing during the hottest months of summer. I know you like hiding yourself, but god Daria, why suffer?" Quinn questioned and the door bell rang and Daria answered it before Helen could reach it. Tom came in and Quinn smirked to herself.

'Let the test begin.' Quinn thought to herself with a little smile.

Trent sighed contentedly after throwing the pizza box away. Hearing the doorbell and knowing that Jane was in the shower, he went to answer it. What he was greeted with would be something would stay with him for the rest of his life.

Helen sighed to herself. Dinner had gone well, Then, after desert and after Jake had quietly gone outside to go squirrel hunting, the drama began. Daria had gone upstairs to use the bathroom. Helen had been noticing how Tom would look at Quinn when Daria wasn't noticing. So, when Daria came back down, Tom had kissed Quinn, Daria had shouted Tom's name, Quinn had slapped Tom so hard that Helen thought her younger daughter had slapped his cheek into the next state, Daria and Tom argued, Tom accused Daria of being insecure and that she needed to get over being insecure about body, and that set Daria into a rage that would have made Jake proud.

"Quinn," Helen said after coming into the living room, "why do I get the feeling that you wanted this to happen?"

"You said it yourself, mom. You wanted to see if he'd make the same mistake twice and he did. I don't know what Daria or her friend saw in him, he's a bad kisser." Quinn said making a sound of disgust at the end of her statement in order to add more emphasis to her point.

"I did didn't I?"

"Good thing I slapped him in front her as well." Quinn said with a smirk.

"Yes, I hope Jane can help her."

"Cookie dough ice cream would do the trick too, mom." Quinn said, "I'd break out, but Daria could probably eat two gallons of the stuff and not gain an ounce. I hate her for that."

"Your aunt Rita and I hated your aunt Amy for being able to eat a lot and not gain an ounce of weight. I think it's a family thing with the cynical members of our family." Helen said with a sigh.

Jane came downstairs to see if Trent had disposed of the pizza box, but what se saw wasn't what she thought she'd see in a million, no a billion years. Daria had her face buried into Trent's chest and Jane could hear her friend sniffling. Trent caught her gaze and mouthed the word 'Tom' to his sister. Jane looked ready go murder Tom but decided that comforting her friend was the most important thing at the moment. She came over to the pair and the two Lane's made a Daria sandwich as they both tried to comfort the auburn that they both cared about in different ways. Jane looked up into her brother eyes to see a rage just below the surface. Jane knew the only thing keeping her brother from finding his knife collection and going on a kill Tom rampage was the crying auburn that they were both hugging.

"You going to be able to control yourself after she falls asleep?" Jane quietly asked Trent.

"It'll be hard, but I'll keep myself under control the best I can." Trent replied back just as quietly. One thing was for sure, Tom wasn't getting near Daria again nor was he going allow another guy to hurt her ever again. He knew where he messed up with that damn project. He couldn't be relied upon and that messed everything up. He would show her that she could rely upon him and that he would never hurt her.

Jane hoped to get the full story later. Right now, though, the most important thing was to let Daria cry. burying that much pain, what ever Tom did to cause it, wouldn't be good for her. She was going to make damn sure that all ties with Tom would be cut permanently.
