211: See Jane Run

by SSJ04 Mewtwo

Here's another episode that gets a big twist. If I went overboard on Li's character, then let me know so I don't do it again.

888

Ms. Morris and Ms. Li were in Li's office. The topic, the latest addition to the track team.

"Surprise wasn't the word for it. It was the most shocking thing I can remember happening to me since I started working here."

"And, with Ms. Lane's joining of the track team, we are just one student away from our goal of 98% student body participation in extracurricular activities. Once we hit that mark, we'll be able to get even more money." Ms. Li said almost gleefully.

"Yeah, well, I think we may have a problem."

"Ms. Morgendorffer?"

"Ms. Morgendorffer. Jane is only on the team because she's trying to stick it to me. She's trying to show me up, but her friend..."

"Has such a high set of ethics that might influence Ms. Lane and that might make her question why she's even on the team to begin with. Yes, we must somehow neutralize that...is there another team we that has an opening?" Lee asked while pulling Daria's records.

"The wrestling team needs a girl..."

"Yes, don't want to be in violation of title nine..." Li said looking over the file. She then got a smirk on her face that only could be described as viciously evil. "I've got her now."

"You've got an idea?"

"Yes, let's just summon our little know-it-all shall we?"

888

She didn't like this. Li's summons to her office was cheery, too damn cheery and happy for her taste. When she came in, seeing Ms. Morris was also present Daria knew she was about to get screw.

"Ms. Morgendorffer, have a seat." Ms. Li said. Daria does so and noted that Lee had her file. "Highland High wasn't the bastion of academia now was it?" she began.

"Well, it's hard to have that many functioning brains with uranium in the drinking water." Daria found herself saying. "What is this about?"

"Credits, Ms. Morgendorffer, class credits. You know, those things you need to graduate with?" Ms. Li said and Daria bit her lip.

"Get to the point."

"You've been quite the pain, especially after you and Ms. Lane pulled that stunt with that poster. However, I think you'll become more cooperative knowing that I can disallow your credits from Highland, forcing you to take classes with your sister."

Daria scowled, "You wouldn't."

"Oh Ms. Morgendorffer, I would. The superintendent would approve and there would be nothing that ambulance chasing lawyer you have as a mother can do about it since Highland's performance is nothing compared to Lawndale's."

"Alright, it's obvious that I'm being blackmailed here. So, what do I do? Keep Jane on the track team then?"

"That's part of it. the other part, Ms. Morgendorffer, is for you to join the wrestling team."

"Excuse me?"

"You heard her Morgendorffer, either wrestle, or..."

"Or, graduate with your sister." Li said. Daria clinched her hands into fists.

"Fine, I'll keep Jane on the track team and I'll join the wrestling team, but I don't want any academic favors. Let me tutor Jane in math. I know I can keep her from losing a C average myself and that way, if she fails, Jane and I both lose."

"Well Now, Ms. Morgendorffer, you certainly are putting undo stress on yourself." Ms. Li said.

"I know how tempting it will be for Jane to want to get a buy for a math test. She's better than that and so am I. We don't need your 'help'." Daria firmly stated.

"Then, I believe we have a deal." Ms. Li said and Daria sighed.

'I've made a deal with Satan and her number one demon.' Daria lamented.

888

"Locker offended you?" Jane asked.

"You aren't the only one with practice today, Lane." Daria growled.

"What?"

"Listen to me very carefully, I've been forced to, because of Highland High's crappy performance, make a deal with Li."

"Uh oh, what did the great Satan want from you?"

"I join the wrestling team."

"What?"

"I join the wrestling team, keep you on the track team, and keep both our grades at, or in my case, above a 'C'." Daria finished.

Jane whistled, "Damn, and here all I wanted was to run up Ms. Morris's spine with track spikes."

"Listen, this is going to be difficult for me. You'll be going off and doing your own thing. I'm not used to having a friend that I've spent most of my time with now doing her own thing."

"You're not losing me...gawd, that sounded cheesy."

"I know."

"You think you can do this with your chronic back pain?"

"I'll use it to take my frustrations out. Besides, unlike most of the sports played at this forsaken hell hole, I can actually fight."

"Don't kill anyone, or, if you do, make sure I'm there."

"And, I've got to pound math into that little head of yours."

"You know..."

"No, neither of us are getting a buy, you got me Lane?"

"Ok, I won't violate your ethics." Jane said smirking.

"And, I'll try to behave myself around your crush."

"I just appreciate him." Jane countered and Daria rolled her eyes.

888

Daria collapsed on the coach the moment she got home.

"Daria?" Helen called out seeing her eldest daughter laying face down on the living room couch.

"Quinn's right, I am a pain wimp." Daria's muffled voice came out.

"What's wrong?"

"Umm..." Daria moaned in pain and sat up. "Remind me never to go back to Highland ever again."

"Huh?"

"Because of that school's low performance, I'm being blackmailed into being apart of the wrestling team by Li. Don't bother in calling her and using your lawyer ways on her. The whole school system will back her up on this one. If I don't, I'll be set back a year and have to graduate with Quinn." Daria explained and Helen sighed.

"That's not all though is it?"

"Jane joined the track team to stick it to our gym teacher. Part of the deal, and this was my doing, was that if I couldn't keep both our grades up then we'd both be kicked off our respective teams and I'm pumped back a whole grade."

"Pain killers?" Helen offered.

"Yes."

888

She sighed as she sat down. She would try and support Jane's insanity, just as long as Jane would support hers.

"Hey Daria,"

"Trent?"

"Decided I'd come watch Jane run...,and, they're pressure washing my room again." Trent said. "Didn't you join a team?"

"Wrestling, I guess Jane told you the situation."

"More or less. Li's screwing the both of you, right?"

"Right. I might be putting my teammates in the hospital, but it's killing me to do it. Be lucky you don't have to carry breasts like we do." Daria said not realizing who she was really saying it to.

"Back troubles?" Trent asked.

"Yeah,"

"I've been told," Trent began and got closer to her, "I've got a knack for back messages." he finished and Daria blushed.

"Mmmm,uh...I think I might take you up on that offer." she quietly said. "I'm taking too many pain pills as it stands now. You think you could come with me to the Pizza King? Jane wanted to meet up there and knowing her, Evan might be tagging along and in the mood I'm in..."

"You might say something that might offend her new boy toy." Trent finished with a smile.

"So, can you....?"

"No problem, was getting hungry anyway."

888

Jane and Evan were monopolizing the conversation, that is, when they could talk without another one of their classmates interrupting the pair to congratulate Jane.

"You do realize of course," Daria began after Jodie and Mac had left, "that Li's only using you to bring more attention to Lawndale High." she finished doing a good impression of their principal. The Lane siblings chuckle and Evan bit his lip, then sighed.

"Some people don't have the income to put away for college so they have to use Li to get a sports scholarship in order to go to college." he countered. "We don't all have mothers that are sharks and can make Li wet herself whenever she wants."

"Point taken, but still, Li's intentions are only self-serving." Daria said.

"Evan sighed, "Can't believe I'm about to say this, but the brain's got a point. Li's always been after more money. I heard she's been trying to get a 98% student body participation for some reason." Jane's eyes widen and Daria scowled.

"And we just put that number over the top, damn." Daria swore. "No wonder she used my Highland records against me in order to get me to join the wrestling. This system has to be toppled."

"Now wait a minute," Evan began but Jane stopped him.

"Daria's right. Li's money hungry and will use all of us to get as much money as she can." Jane said and Evan sighed. They were right, but he just didn't want this effecting his chances in getting into a good school.

888

"Ok, what is this about?" Jodie asked.

"You are the only one that can do what I need you to do. as much fun as kicking the crap out Oakdale's team, I don't wish to be Li's slave anymore."

"I'll be taking a big risk by doing this, but if you are right then Li needs to be gotten rid of." Jodie said. "Ok, I'll do it."

888

Li sat at her desk with a smug look on her face. Then the door opened to admit first the district superintendent and then to Li's shock the state superintendent of schools.

"Li, you've gone too far this time. As of right now, you are fired. There a couple of gentle men waiting for you outside." the district superintendent said.

"What are you...what is the meaning...?" Li began but two officers of the law came.

"Angela Li, you're under arrest," the cop began.

"Arrest!?" Li shouted as she was dragged off in cuffs.
