413: Dye! Dye! My Darling (2)

Here we go again...probably the worst episode for us shippers besides 313.

Can you see me making out with anyone, ever?" Daria asked.

"Uh, with Trent..." Jane began but clammed up the moment that name came out of her mouth. She knew at that moment that she had said the wrong thing. The anger in those grey eyes almost chilled her to the bone.

"First you accuse me of all this crap with your boyfriend. And now, now you make a stupid Trent Joke! Is this what our friendship has come to, accusations and jokes about crushes!? Talk to me when you are finished being paranoid." she finished and stormed out of the house. Jane put her hand to her forehead.

"Couldn't resist could you Lane?" Jane asked herself. She turned to see Trent standing there not looking too impressed at the scene he'd just seen. 'Earth, swallow me up right now.' she thought.

888

She hadn't made it ten feet down the street before hot tears started to threaten. She clinched her right hand as she tried to calm her emotions down. Knowing that she knew she couldn't go back home. The fashion nut jobs were still there. She turned and headed in a different direction.

888

"Are you trying to drive her away?" Trent asked with an arched eyebrow.

"No...it's just..."

"If she were her sister then you would have a right to think like you've been thinking, but she isn't. She isn't a people person or do you conveniently forget that?" Trent asked. Jane bit her lip. Trent was showing uncharacteristic observations.

"But her and Tom..."

"Tom's the one interested in her and that's not her fault. And even if she were interested in him she would never steal him from you. She's not like that and you know it. You, on the other hand, accuse of something she hasn't done, forced her to help dye your hair, you're really blowing it, Janie."

888

She didn't know why she ended up on Dega Street. She also didn't know why she was staring at that outfit...the same one Trent told her she would look good in. That felt so long ago now. Looking at it closely, she could tell that it was even more of a fashion disaster than what she wore. A Mona Lisa smirk crossed her face.

'Ok Trent, let's see how wrong you are.' she thought and headed inside.

888

"And another thing," Trent continued.

"Don't you have sleep to catch up on?" Jane complained.

"At the moment, no. You couldn't help yourself to play match maker and or joke about what she felt for me."

"You knew?"

"I'll get to that later. She didn't know how to handle those emotions and instead of trying to help her with that, you either put her in awkward situation with me or you made some stupid joke. When I went to get your birthday present with her I could tell how shy she was. Hell, I could tell she was uncomfortable around me when we tried to go to Alternapalooza and ended broke down near that field of corn. So, can you really say she could ever take Tom away from you?" he asked.

888

'Well, it doesn't make me look worse, but it does show a little shape of my...' she thought and looked over at her green jacket. 'If there was a black one just like...'what am I...well, the shock value would be worth it. Besides, this thing's a tie-dye go-go outfit. It's not like I'm going to dress like Quinn.' she shuttered remembering that particular stunt.

888

"Ok, so maybe you're right, but you didn't seem too thrilled to do anything about her feelings for you." Jane finally fired back.

"How much experience do you think she really has? And sure, I might have been dating Monique a while back, but I cut classes so I could spend time with those I was dating at the time. I've got ten times more experience plus I'm not a virgin. I'd scare her and you know it." Trent explained.

"Alright, alright, I think you've proven your point." she sighed out. It looked like that a lot of crow would have to be eaten and a lot of apologizing would have to be done.

Daria sighed to herself as she heard the four fashion obsessed girls loudly talking in the living room. She had hoped they would be gone by the time she returned home, but that desired was soon dashed when she came through the front door. However, since she was in a better state emotionally, she wouldn't have to worry too much if one of Quinn's 'friends' decided that they needed to get her attention and start up some stupid conversation with her. Keeping the bag out of direct sight, she started making her way up the stairs hoping to reach her sanctuary of her room.

"Hey brain, don't you have your own home to go back to or something?"

Daria's head whipped around to see who had addressed her. She scowled seeing the war painted face of Sandi. The auburn was starting to feel a headache coming on, along with the slight pain in her back she'd been feeling from before the whole hair dye fiasco.

'Well, this ought to get my mind off of everything.' "Unfortunately, this is my home, no matter what Quinn says."

"And who was that guy that was sitting in your driveway?" Sandi asked.

"Guy...?"

"Yeah, he was looking for you...but why a guy like him would be looking for you is beyond me, brain." Sandi spat back.

'Tom,' she thought with venom. "That was Jane's boyfriend."

"Lane is dating him?" Sandi asked incredulously.

"As hard as it is for your little shallow mind to wrap itself around that idea, it's the truth."

"Then, why would he wanna see you, brain?" Sandi asked before Daria could head upstairs.

"He's an idiot, and that's all I'll say about it." Daria growled out.

"Awe, what's the matter, boy taking away your lover?" Sandi taunted. Quinn's eyes bugged out seeing the rage fill her sister's eyes. It reminded her of when her father was getting ready to explode over the finances.

"Griffin, you wouldn't know the first thing about having a best friend, a true best friend. Your definition of friendship is surrounding yourself with people that are either slightly less popular than you, and or find the most popular girl and befriend her in order to inflate your own popularity. Jane might be a royal pain in the ass at times, but she's a true friend, unlike you are to Quinn. You intimidate Stacy and Tiffany is a 'yes girl'. She'll agree with both you and Quinn in order to hedge her bet whenever you and Quinn actually but heads." she said and marched upstairs without another word.

'She's right. Stacy is a wet blanket and Tiffany just agrees with whoever she thinks is in the right at the time. Is she right though? Do I not have a true friend like my sister does?' Quinn thought.

She opened her locker and started exchanging books form her backpack for those that were in her locker. Her new attire hadn't raised as many eyebrows and that was probably due to the fall out of her wearing contacts fiasco.
"Nice look."

"Are you ready to talk like a human being?"

"You've got a good defender in Trent." Jane began. Daria whipped her head around to make a bitting comment when she saw that the comment that Jane had uttered wasn't one said in jest.

"What do you mean?" Daria asked evenly.

"He didn't like the way I was acting around you and he actually did something about it by putting me in my place by hammering a few facts that I conveniently forgotten back into my little head. You aren't Quinn. You'd never take Tom away from me. You just offer Tom some brain exercise that I can't. Why his brain needs a workout I'll never know." Jane said and Daria relaxed.

"When Tom had stopped to talk to me when I was staying over, I thought he had checked up on you and you had told him that you needed a few minutes to finish up your sculpture. I guess I should have watched the time myself."

"No, you thought right...I was being the jealous, possessive bitch and I took it out on you."

"Thank you."

"Have I eaten enough crow?"

"Put the knife and fork down, you've had enough. But, there may be another problem."

"What?"

"According to Quinn and the fashion drones, Tom stopped my place and was wanting to talk to me. Fortunately, my outing at Dega Street was long enough so that I missed him."

"Oh boy, if he wants to try and date you then why would he do something as stupid as see you behind my back?"

"Because he's not the perfect male that he makes everyone think he is."

"And, I am sorry for recruiting you for a hair dye job. I'm the artist around here, not you, and I forgot that in my desire to keep Tom and to assure myself that you wanted to help me keep Tom."

"If you have to go through all that work just to keep a boyfriend then the relationship is over."

"You're right," Jane sighed and slumped against the locker next to Daria's, "I guess Trent's slacker approach in trying to keep Tom would have worked better."

"I don't think sleeping eighteen hours would help more than me dying your hair."

"Nah, but I would be well rested." she joked. "Seriously, talk to Trent. Repair that which O'Neil damaged."

"I..."

"Look, I wanted you to ask him for that music so that the two of you would come up with the music together, not leave my brother to his own devices." Jane explained and Daria sighed and started rubbing her forehead.

"I don't know why I didn't do that in the first place. I guess I didn't want to interfere with his creative process."

"Trust me, his creative process is far different from mine." Jane said with a smirk.

"Ok, but get this straight Lane, if I say afterwards that there's nothing there anymore then back off..."

"And if there is?"

"I hope to settle that when I next talk to him."

"Then, shall we seal the deal with a pizza?"

"Those terms are acceptable." Daria said with her trademark Mona Lisa smirk.
