Chapter 15- The conclusion.

Disclaimer- I do not own The Incredible's, it is a Disney/ Pixar animation motion picture.

Tony Rydinger fell to the floor as Psychewave delivered another punch to is jaw. Tony’s face was red and his nose was bleeding, bruises were already beginning to develop and Tony’s clothes were torn.
“Mark my words boy and mark them well. No one opposes me and escapes unpunished. Do you think your little intervention has done anything to hinder my plans? I am still here, in town hall. The city is still mine to rule. Losing the services of Vanisher is irrelevant now, I have come too far for failure.”

Psychewave laughed and sat down on a chair behind his new desk in the mayor’s office of town hall. He had take Tony hostage after the incident with Vanisher and now he was enjoying himself.

Slowly Tony managed to climb to his feet, but had to use the wall for support. Psychewave wasn’t worried for a second, with his telekinesis he could throw Tony across the room if he tried anything.
“You haven’t slowed me down at all. By the time my power is officially overthrown events will have been put into motion that cannot be stopped. Like a ripple it will spread and grow until a tidal wave crashes down upon those who, as we speak, are trying to remove me from this place. The world will change, I shall see to that. People fear change. That is why they object. But when they see as I see, they will not fear, but embrace, the rule of the supers and allow themselves to be guided into a new, peaceful and prosperous world.”

Tony wiped blood from under his nose and glared at Psychewave.
“You’re insane.” He spat out venomously. Psychewave waved his hand and sent Tony flying into the wall with a telekinetic blast. Tony cried out as he slammed into the wall and when he landed, he didn’t get up again. He was still conscious, but just barely.
“You lack vision. But you will see. Soon everyone will see.” Psychewave said angrily. He turned away from Tony and looked out of the large hole that used to be the office window.

Outside picket signs had been put up and a large crowd of people were standing in front of the building, protesting at Psychewave’s claim to power.
“Get out of here.” Yelled a mans voice through a megaphone.
“Humans leading humans.”
“We don’t want you here.”
“Supers out.”

Psychewave smirked and folded his hands together. They were all talk, none of them dared to make a move on the building.
“Do you see this Rydinger. No one is coming to your rescue, no one opposes me, no one dares to.”

“Surrender now and I might go easy on you.” Yelled a new voice over the megaphone. Psychewave sat bolt upright in his seat and his eyes widened in surprise.
“I know that voice.” He jumped to the winder and stared in disbelief.

The crowd had parted in two like the red sea and Vanisher stood in the centre of the gap. The megaphone was in her hands and she stared up at Psychewave with pure rage.
“Impossible.” Psychewave whispered. He pulled himself together and looked down at her with a smirk on his face.

Violet was standing slightly hunched over and looked bedraggled. The left side of her face had a nasty looking bruise and a portion of her hair looked slightly thin, even from high in his office Psychewave could see the pale scalp through the black locks. The only impressive thing on her was her suit. She must have paid a visit to Edna Mode. Her suit was royal purple with black elbow length gloves and knee-high boots. There was black under ware on the outside with a gold belt. The gold V on her chest shone brightly up at him.
“Nice suit.” He yelled down sarcastically. Violet put the megaphone to her mouth again.
“Psychewave, you time here is over.” She shouted back at him. People cheered for Violet. Psychewave meanwhile burst into laughter, he had to lean against the wall to stop himself falling over. When the cheers of the crowd died down his laughter echoed over the audience.
“You’re going to try and stop me?” He called in an amused voice. Violet glared up at him and raised the megaphone to her mouth once again.
“Try, nothing. I will stop you and anything you throw at me.”

Psychewave raised his arm and tapped at the controls of his wrist control.
“Alright then. Let’s play.” He growled quietly.

From a ground floor window the omnidroid burst out onto the street. Violet dropped the megaphone and ran forward to meet it. The droid reared up on two legs and switched its front paws for knives. Violet widened her stance and raised her arms ready to fight. The robots green eye stared at her intensely and swung gently from side to side, ready to strike.

The robot slashed at Violet with its left arm. Reacting on instinct Violet deflected the blow with her arm. The knife slid harmlessly across the improved material of her new suit and slashed at the air. The omnidroid slashed again and again. Violet screamed angrily as she knocked back blow after blow. She took several steps back, trying to put at least a little distance between herself and the robot, even for a second, so she could form an attack. But the omnidroid wouldn’t give an inch and pushed on and on toward Violet, forcing her to keep moving backwards.

Vi’ ducked down and rolled to the side, the droid stayed on her and slashed at her rolling body. Sparks flew as the blade scratched at the road. Violet jumped to her feet and did a roundhouse kick. A bolt of pain shot up her foot as it connected with the omnidroid’s head. Violet hopped away, holding her foot in her hands.
“Bad idea, bad idea, bad idea.” She growled. The robot staggered for only a second before it dived after her again. Violet spun and slammed her damaged foot into the small head of the omnidroid. She staggered away yelled in agony. The omnidroid fell backwards, its flexible body got to work and the machine flipped over and finished upright and facing Violet. The kick hadn’t even scratched it.

Violet tripped over the kerb and yelled as she landed hard on her ass. The droid pulled its arms back and aimed the knives at her chest. As it dived at her, Violet zapped up a shield around her body. The knives shattered against the energy barrier and the robot back away and dropped to all fours, its paws clicking back into place. It looked at Violet, it’s computer brain analysing the shield around her as Violet climbed to her feet. Her whole body hurt and all she wanted to do was climb into her bed and rest for the next few months. But she had to do this now, it was her duty.

The robot tackled the shield, the blue energy shimmered but held. Violet began to walk and, like a hamster in a ball, she moved slowly toward. The robot charged at her again and again, but couldn’t penetrate Violet’s shield. Violet ignored the robot and continued on toward the city hall building.

There was a roar from beyond the doorway and Shifter, in his full werewolf form leapt out onto the street and slammed into Violet and her shield. The small robot was almost nothing, but the seven foot tall werewolf was another matter and Violet overbalanced and was sent rolling away from the building.

Violet dropped the shield and landed on her feet, she staggered dizzily for a second, this was all the time that was needed. The omnidroid slammed into Violet and knocked her off of her feet.

As violet slammed into the road her vision began to blacken. It felt like a truck had hit her chest and all of her muscles ached. All of Violet’s injuries were becoming too much, she had to end this now.

The droid turned itself around and faced Violet. It reared itself up on its back legs and replaced the front paws with two circular saws. Violet looked at it and acted again, totally on instinct. Her mother had one said ‘When the time comes, you’ll know what to do.’ She wasn’t wrong. Violet zapped a small shield around the robots head. When the shield was dropped the head section fell away and the robot fell limply to the ground and made pathetic whirring noises. Violet had sliced clean through the metal like a hot knife through butter.

Violet staggered herself to her feet just as Shifter came running close.
“I won’t let you do this.” He growled loudly. Violet tried to at least look ready, even though she felt a thousand light-years from being anywhere near ready.
“Don’t stand in my way Shifter. I have to do this, but the fight is between me and Psychewave.” She said, trying to sound threatening. She was hoping to talk Shifter out of fighting, she didn’t think she could survive.
“Psychewave is trying to help everyone, you know that. Why are you trying to stop him now?” He growled back. He was talking, that was good, maybe she could actually get somewhere.
“Psychewave had a grand vision once. There’s no arguing with that. But somewhere along the way that vision was corrupted. He’s lost is noble ideals and became concerned with the pursuit of power regardless of who gets hurt.”

Shifter threw his head back and howled loudly. Violet took a step back as a shiver ran down her spine. His fur bristled up and his eyes flashed with a pure animal rage. He ducked low and jumped at her, his large claw aimed right at her throat. Violet ducked down and rolled away to the right. Shifter landed in the spot she had been standing in a second before. His claws chipped the road and sent chunks flying.

Violet gripped her sides, tears rolled down her face and the scab on her lip spilt open and blood began to run down her chin. Shifter landed on his feet and whirled around to face her again. He shrugged his shoulders and growled as Violet slowly climbed to her feet. Her lungs felt like they were wrapped in iron and her eyes stung with tears and she could taste blood in her mouth.

Shifter kicked his legs and raced at Violet. She wavered uneasily in the spot, she seemed dazed with pain. He raced closer, he bared his teeth and held his claws out, ready to make the killing strike.

Just inches away Violet dropped and rolled, screaming out loud as each of her ribs felt like they were stabbing into her lungs. Sifter flew over her head and slammed into the wall of the building that had been behind Violet. Bricks and concrete fell down on top of his head. He fell unconscious to the floor in a limp heap as a portion of the building landed in his head.

Violet lay on the floor and stared at the sky, which swam in a haze of shapes and dark colours. She dragged air into her lungs while her chest pounded wave after wave to her brain. Her head felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to her skull. The back of her throat tasted like blood and her face felt like pulp, Violet didn’t believe that there was a part of her body that was inured in some way.

There were screams in the distance. Violet’s head began to clear and her eyes began to focus. Someone was in trouble and there was no doubt that Psychewave was behind it. She had to stop him.

With every muscle, bone and nerve screaming in protest, Violet managed to sit up. Her vision still swam around. Violet tried to focus, but that just made her head feel like glass with going through it so she just let her vision correct itself. She staggered to her feet and had t guess where the town hall was. She had been so turned around by the fight with both the omnidroid and Shifter that, with her impaired senses, she could tell where she was.

She guessed right and Psychewave was waiting for her. He was holding the hand of a little girl, she had to be no more than five years old. She was sobbing wildly and fought against him, but Psychewave’s grip was to tight. There was no crowd, they must have dispersed when Violet started fighting. But the young girls parents were fighting against a telekinetic barrier. The mother was screaming and pounding against an invisible wall while the young girls father punched and kicked wildly.

“Let her go.” Violet tried to yell, but her voice came out dry and weak. Psychewave smiled at her ad looked down at the little frightened girl.
“Look at her Vanisher. She has no dreams for the future, no goals for her life. No plan, no purpose. In a way all the people of this city are like her. They have no plans beyond their own generation. None of them can see that I’m trying to help everyone, not only now, but forever.”

“Just let her go Psychewave.” Violet said threateningly. “This is between you and me.”
“You of all people should be able to see what I’m trying to do. Can’t you understand that I’m just trying to help?” He yelled angrily, the little girls screamed in fright and fell to the floor. Violet tried to tense up and keep herself ready when Psychewave did anything.
“Not like this. Can’t *you* see Psychewave? Your vision for the future may have been grand, but you can’t force people to accept it. They’re not ready.”

Psychewave scowled angrily at her and threw his arm toward Violet. She screamed insanely as she was thrown from her feet up into the air. The ground pulled away at an insane speed and she flailed her arms madly. Suddenly Violet stopped rising as Psychewave released her from his telekinetic powers. She was falling toward the roof of city hall. Its flat grey concrete surface rushed at her. Violet curled herself up tightly and forced a shield around herself.

The concrete shattered as she landed, but she didn’t fall through to the room below. Violet dropped the shield around her and rolled away from the landing spot, just in case the roof decided to give. A shadow fell onto the roof as Violet turned her head she heard Psychewave’s voice calling out.
“Ready or not. Here I come.”

He landed on the roof and laughed as Violet tried to stagger to her feet.
“It’s a shame you came here injured.” He said smugly. “I would have loved to have fought you I your prime.”

Violet finally managed to get onto her feet and glared at Psychewave.
“I can’t let you do this Psychewave.” She said, unable to sound threatening as the blood dribbled down her chin from her still bleeding lip. Psychewave waved his hands and knocked her off of her feet. Violet slammed onto her back and groaned winded.
“Pathetic.” He said. Violet felt an invisible hand grip her throat and lifted her from the ground. She choked and her legs kicked empty air as she was lifted away from the roof.
“Foolish girl. You dare to challenge me?” He pulled her close and glared right into her eyes. “Dare to try and stop me?” He walked toward the edge of the roof, dragging Violet by his side. Psychewave pushed Violet out over the edge of the building and left her hovering fifty feet above the ground.
“I rescued you from your pathetic life, released you from your pain. After everything I’ve done, you betray me? And for what?”

Violet’s vision began to swim and darken, but she could hear every word Psychewave was saying clearly.
“For a family who don’t care about you? A boyfriend who has forsaken you? A public that want you under their boot?” He loosened his grip on her only slightly and Violet sucked air into her lungs and her vision began to return to crystal clarity. Her thoughts began to clear, and with it the dark realisation that her situation was dire. Psychewave dragged Violet close to him, so close that she could see each blood vessel I his eyes throbbing with anger.
“Can’t you see? None of them will understand you as I can? We are kindred spirits you and I. I don’t want to destroy you. We are smarter, we are stronger, we are invincible. We have the power, we are superior to them. We should rule, we *shall* rule. All we have to do is work together.” He released his hold around her mouth, letting her talk. He held out his hand toward her. “Join me.”

Violet’s focus snapped back into total clarity and she glared at Psychewave furiously. A growl rose in the back of her throat. Psychewave looked at her and took a step backwards.
“NEVER!!!” Violet screamed. She put a shield around her body. Psychewave’s powers couldn’t penetrate the shield and Violet dropped onto the roof. Psychewave jumped back in surprise as Violet dropped her forcefield and ran at him, her anger giving her strength.
“I’ll never join you.” She punched him and he staggered back. “And it’s because I am stronger.” A roundhouse kick right in the stomach he doubled over. “Because I am invincible.” She kneed him in the face and he fell onto his back. “Because I have the power.” She kicked at his ribs he gasped painfully and clutched his sides.

Violet grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and pulled him along the concrete and dragged him up to his feet.
“That I have to protect them from *you*.” She yelled into his face, not caring that her spit was flying at him. The rapid and dreadful attack he had just received left Psychewave was dazed and unable to focus.
“You are a monster.” She pushed him closer to the edge of the roof, still holding onto him tightly.
“You are evil.” She held him over the edge, just one slip of the fingers and he would be falling fifty feet towards the street. Psychewave looked at her fearfully, blood began to drip from his nose.
“And you are…defeated.” Her fingers opened and Psychewave yelled and flailed his arms as he went over the edge.

Violet watched him for only half a second and zapped a shield around his body. Psychewave fell to the ground. The pavement cracked as he landed, but he was unharmed. Psychewave was frozen in place in the centre of the glowing blue sphere. He shouted angrily and tried to thrash and kick to free himself. From up on her place on the roof Violet looked down at him. The last of her strength was fading from her body, her reserves of adrenaline were beyond drained and her injuries, both old and new had taken their toll. She fell to her knees and focused the last of her energy to keeping Psychewave in place.

In the distance she could hear sirens approaching.

********************************

“We have Psychewave in custody at a secure location. We can keep his powers suppressed with mild sedatives. Shifter has vanished, but we don’t suspect he’ll be too hard to track down. He’s just muscle, not the thinker. Don’t worry, We’ll get him.” It was agent Rick Dickers voice. Quiet and distant.
“There will be an official government trial. Not to worry. You see, she broke into an official government installation and stole army property. She endangered public safety, threatened one mayor and attacked what was technically another. But I can assure you that it’s all for show, nothing more than a slap on the wrists will come of it. Don’t worry Bob, Helen, she’ll be fine. This could have been a lot worse all around.”

A door opened and a strangers voice sounded.
“I’m afraid visiting hours are over. You may come back tomorrow.”

Something wet landed on her forehead. A kiss?
“We’ll be back soon honey. You rest up.” Helen’s voice came through to Violet. Then the voices were gone and the darkness descended.

*************************

*Three weeks later.*

There was a knock at the front door and Violet, with loud and pained groans climbed off of the sofa and staggered to her feet. Her family weren’t home. Dash was at school and her mom and dad were on patrol.

Tony was on the doorstep and Violet was shocked by his appearance. He was slightly slumped over, just like Violet was. She guessed that he had his own rib injuries. His nose was slightly swollen and slightly bruised. She felt a stab of guilt run through her chest. Psychewave had taken him hostage and beaten Tony because of what he had done.
“Hi.” Tony said uneasily. Violet tried to look him in the eyes, but her gaze dropped to the floor.
“Hey.” She said quietly. An uneasy silence between the two and Tony began to shuffle about on his feet.
“Can I come in?” He asked nervously. Violet turned and walked back into the house, she left the door open and Tony took this as an invitation and stepped inside, closing the door behind him.

Violet wandered back into the living room and Tony followed close behind.
“Vi’ I…” He began, but Violet interrupted him.
“Dash told me about your new girlfriend.” She said in an angry and quiet tone, she didn’t even turn to look at him.
“Marie.” He confirmed for her. Violet folded her arms and turned her head to look back at him.
“Tony. I understand why you said what you said to me back at town hall. You brought me back and made me who I am again.” Now she turned to face him. “But you don’t have to explain anything. I understand that she’s the one you want to be with now. You’ve moved on, I guess I have to too.”

Tony stepped forward and put a finger on her lips.
“Shut up for one minute you beautiful moron.” He said in the sweetest possible tone. He pulled his hand away from her. “Marie and I, are not together.”

Violet stared at him in stunned silence.
“You’re…not?” She finally managed to choke out. Tony smiled and nodded.
“You can thank Dash, I guess. He reminded me that it doesn’t matter what you do, or what I do. It’s not about the worry, or the time we spend together. All that matters is how we feel. I love you, no matter what happens I will always love you.”

Another uneasy silence grew between the two of them, Violet could feel a blush spreading across her face, it was quite painful around her bruise. An embarrassed blush was also spreading across Tony’s face.

“Dash helped you with that?” she joked nervously. Tony shrugged his shoulders and smiled nervously.
“Sort of. He got me thinking about you and I got to thinking about how I felt about you…The rest just grew from there I suppose.” He fell silent and Violet too didn’t say a word.

It was an unspoken understanding that had fallen between the two of them. A lot of harsh words had been exchanged and a lot of things had happened to the two of them since this whole thing began. Could they go back to what they had before? Could they still love each other and not let their thoughts and actions be influenced by the memories of what had taken place? In this case, could love really conquer all?

Violet decided to take Tony’s advice. To stop thinking and just feel and act on those feelings.
“I love you too Tony.” She whispered lovingly. She draped her arms around his shoulders and pulled him toward her. Their lips drew close and both lovers could practically feel sparks jump between their mouths.

Their lips connected and that electricity flowed through their entire bodies. It all became simplified. Fear, doubt, guilt and anger were all forgotten in those precious moments. Their love was pure and strong, it was meant to be. They had gone through the most horrific experience anyone could ever go through and they had come out of it all still in love and still together. Nothing could ever tear them apart again.

The end.
