Dr’s Orders
a Kim Possible fanfic
by Kalushan
I don’t own Kim Possible, Disney does even though they don’t deserve it. I make no money off of this, and if anybody ELSE makes money off of it, I will be über-pissed. Season four, prior to Graduation. Is this a lemon or a PSA?…Hell if I know. Enjoy!
Kim stuck her head into the living room. Fortunately, there was only one occupant; her father had locked himself down in his lab, and the Tweebs were off doing…something, she didn’t know what and didn’t much care unless they blew up the house (and sadly, that was not the most remote of possibilities). So it was just her mother, sitting on the couch and watching Gray’s Anatomy while constantly rolling her eyes and giggling.
“Umm, mom? Could I talk to you?” she asked with a little hesitation, hoping that this wasn’t a huge mistake.
“Sure thing, Kimmie-cub, this is a rerun anyway,” Ann replied, killing the TV.
“Well, it’s about Ron…”
“Oh, what did Ronald do this time? He didn’t swap your mission pack with Hana’s diaper bag again, did he?”
The teen flinched, remembering THAT particular incident. “No, that’s not it. It’s about…well, us.” Her mother just nodded. “Him and me, I mean.” Another nod. “About us, maybe, being…together.”
“You already are togeth-OH.” She sat straight up, and Kim cringed again. Ann looked around the room. “Let’s take this upstairs, hun.” She led the way to her daughter’s room and Kim followed, eyes glued to the floor.
Ann sat down on the bed and asked Kim to sit next to her. For a minute she just looked at her daughter, trying to parse out what to say. “Are you sure you’re ready, Kim?” she finally asked.
“I…I think so,” the girl replied, looking up. “You’re not mad?”
The doctor put her arm around Kim’s shoulder. “You came to me. You want to know if this is right. You didn’t sneak around or act hastily. No, I’m not mad. I’m flattered that you trust me enough to talk to me about this.”
“I just…this is a big step. Pretty much the biggest. I don’t know if I can handle this much drama.”
“Has Ron said anything?”
“No, but I think he wants to.”
“He’s seventeen and you’re a beautiful girl. And he loves you. Of course he wants to, I just wanted to know that you’re not doing this for him.” She pulled back and took another long look at the remarkable young woman her daughter had grown into. “I won’t tell you not to, you probably would anyway. Just make sure you’re not doing it because of what other people expect or because you think you need to in order to hold on to Ron.”
“I know, I wouldn’t,” Kim said, fingers meshed tightly together.
“Kim honey, how far have the two of you…gotten?”
“MOM!”
“It’s a legitimate question, Kimmie.”
“Urk. Second? I guess, maybe third, I don’t quite…”
Ann nodded sagely, thinking back to her own high school days when she was figuring out how far was far enough with the guys she had dated. “And what about alone?”
“MO-ther!!!” Kim nearly shrieked, face now crimson.
“What, everyone does it, or nearly everyone. I do. It’s normal and healthy. And no one can know as well as you what makes you feel good,” the older woman said, one half clinical doctor and one half understanding mother.
“…Yes. I know enough about that.”
“And I don’t have to tell you to be safe, do I?”
“No, Mom, I remember health class, and the lecture from when I was twelve.”
“Good. Because babysitting is great; you get to hand them back at the end of the night. Not so great when you have to keep them. I can get a prescription for you at the hospital tomorrow.”
“You…won’t tell dad, will you?”
“My lips are sealed, Kimmie-cub.” Ann hugged her daughter tightly. “You love him, don’t you?”
“Yes, I do,” the cheerleader whispered, hugging back. “I can’t believe I didn’t see it before now. He’s always been my best friend and my sidekick and now…the same but much more.”
“Have you told him?”
“I…told him last week.”
“And did he freak?”
“He stammered, but no, he didn’t.” Kim smiled. “He replied.”
Ann kissed the top of her daughter’s head. “My little girl’s all grown up. I can’t tell you how proud we both are of you. We’ve always trusted your judgment before, so I see no reason to stop now.”
“Thanks, Mom.” The two Possible women stayed like that for a long time.
A/N:
There. That’s it. You were expecting smut? Too bad. I thought about it, decided nah, that would only make it tawdry. PWP has its place, but not here. I really like the relationship between Kim and her parents, particularly her mother who unfortunately we don’t get to see as much of. So that’s kinda what I was going for, that she’s very loving and supportive leavened with a bit of caution. And really, if you trust your daughter to hitch a ride to Europe to fight super villains…AGAIN, odds are you’d trust her in more intimate, if also more mundanely teenage, situations.
