Home again

Zim waited for what seemed like hours but what was really probably only about ten minutes. He paced restlessly, glancing out the window every so often, waiting for the dark haired boy to get home. Finally he saw the familer black coat and he quickly backed away from the window, not wanting Dib to think he had been watching for him. His antenna quirked in annoyance as he waited for Dib to get to his room. Downstairs he could hear muffled conversation and then a loud voice floating up to the room.

"What do you mean you ate the rest of the hot dogs?!? I was going to eat those Dib!!"

Then a muffled scream and about two seconds later Zim heard footsteps and just managed to back away from the door before Dib raced in and closed it behind himself, breathing ragged. "Sisters." He muttered, rubbing his shoulder where Gaz had evedently hit him. "Can't live with em, can't blast em into space." He flashed Zim a warning as he opened his mouth to respond. "It was a joke Zim, a joke."

Zim glared. How was he supposed to know that? He was just going to say that it would be perfectly easy to send Dib's sister into orbit. Instead, he glared angrily. "Filthy human, how dare you leave me here? What was I supposed to do?"

Dib blinked. "Well I figured you could find some way to amuse yourself after you were done getting your bed ready...." He trailed off as he caught sight of Zim's nest-like structure. "What is that?"

Zim looked uneasy. "My sleeping spot. You told me to get blankets and make one so I did. Why? What's wrong with it?" He did notice that it was different, more enclosed, not so open but other than that he didn't really see the difference.

Dib shook his head. "It's just... I was expecting something that matched your personality a little more, something more... I dunno... abnormal maybe?"

Zim glared at Dib. “Just because I’m from Irk doesn’t mean that I’m some sort of…. Some sort of….” He looked for a word.

“Alien?”

Zim looked in surprise as Dib mumbled the word. “Yeah… I guess so.” He said softly, realizing that it was the best word that described it. “After all, to me, you’re the alien.” Then he snapped back, angry at himself for letting that out. “But it doesn’t matter. This was my mission after all.”

Without warning he felt a hand on his arm, pulling him. He looked up to see Dib, bringing him close. Instinctivly, Zim fought snarling angrily. “What are you doing human?”

Dib shushed him and brought him close, holding him protectively. “You were lonely… weren’t you.” It wasn’t a question.

Zim glared at him bit didn’t struggle, telling himself it was because it was usless but secretly liking the warm feeling that it gave him. “Don’t… don’t be ridiculous.” But he couldn’t help relaxing slightly in the human’s warm embrace.

Suddenly an antenna popped up between them, surprisingly strong metal arms wrapping around Zim's neck. "MASTER!!!" Zim sighed, everything was going to be different. He didn't know how long he was going to stay there, but there was one thing he was sure of. It wouldn't be boring.
