CHAPTER 7: THE WINNER IS...?

CHAPTER 7:
THE WINNER IS...?

Fifi sipped her grape juice (imported) as the scene faded back to the present, revealing a stunned pink rabbit and  and a perplexed blonde-haired duck.

“You have-like, got to be kidding me.” Shirley muttered aloud.

“You. The renowned Fifi le Fume, had a perfectly chaste and celibate prom-night? You?” Babs added. It was too much for her to comprehend.

Fifi turned up her nose and she folded her arms. “Hmph! I will ‘ave you know I’ve had many dates that had nothing to do weeth sex.” she said.

“Yeah.” Babs said with a smirk, “Because your date could run faster than you.”

To which Shirley added, “Or passed out.”

Babs giggled a little, “Remember the one that dislocated his arms after she tied him down?”

“Was that Calamity or Arnold?” Shirley asked.

Fifi’s tail frizzed with annoyance but otherwise she retained her composure and replied in an even tone. “Eet was Arnold. And eet had nothing to do with me. He slipped and fell down some stairs.”

“Sorry Feefs.” Babs began, with all due caution as she put an arm anout Fifi’s shoulder, “You know we love you but you gotta admit,”

“That’s a hard story to swallowed, and I swallowed Plucky.” Shirley quipped.

Babs nodded in agreement, “You had a totally willing boy, that wasn’t bothered by your, your—”

“——le Fumes” Shirley added

“And nothing happened?” Babs folded her arms and shook her head, “I know Hamton’s a bit of a weenie, but that’s taking it to extreme. He had the third hottest date at the prom-”

“Third?!” Fifi said, her voice rising to a growl, her tail swaying dangerously.

Babs raised her hands, “Hey, don’t gas the messenger Fifi. I mean you gotta give first place to Mitzy.”

Fifi sighed and nodded. “Agreed. But who was ze second?”

Bab’s tugged her ears down as she posed, her voice adopting a light southern drawl “Why just little old me of course?” she replied, batting her lashes in a flirty yet adorable manner.

Fifi and Shirley were dead pan in their silence.

“Yeesh. Tough crowd.” Babs said, “Okay fine. Can we agree on three way tie for second?”

“I accept.” Fifi said, her tail relaxing once again.

“Ditto.” was Shirley’s response.

“Point is Feefs. Hamton had you all to himself. You were totally game for anything he might have said. And nothing happened.”

Fifi daubed her muzzle clean. “Something did happen Babs. I got to spend an entire evening with a boy, talking and cuddling, with no groping or chasing. I think I may have found how you say, ‘a keeper’.”

Babs was just about to say something when the lunch bell rang. Fifi wasted not time in neatly packing up her lunch before and bidding the two a polite bot noticeably curt “au revouir”.

“We, like, so owe her a present.” the blonde-haired duck said.

“Yeah,”  Babs said as she packed away her own leftovers, “She was a good sport about the whole thing. Thought for sure we were going to wind up like Max and the others.”

"Ditto”

The two remaining friends gathered their things and began the walk back to the main school hall in silence as they replayed Fifi’s story in their minds.

“You know Babs. Maybe Fifi had the right idea.” Shirley said with uncharacteristic wistfulness.

“How do you figure?” Babs asked.

“Well I’ll be honest. I’m kinda wishing I like never made that stupid bet. Hearing Fifi’s version of the night, makes me wonder if me and Plucky missed a chance to, like, connect or some junk.”

Babs sighed  before nodding. “I hear you Shirl. I mean it was a magical first time for Buster anf me but it didn’t feel ‘pure’. I spent so much time thinking about how to win the bet——”

“That you forgot to really enjoy the moment?”

“Yeah. And the more I think about it the more it feels like Buster was just acting along.”

Shirley nodded. “I’ll give Plucky credit. He played me like a fiddle.”

Babs giggled, “if what you said is true he’s got a heck of a bow.”

Both girls enjoyed a good round of laughter before the mood again turned to contemplation.

“I’m just going to say it Shirl. Fifi beat us again.” Babs finally said.

“Totally. She got the best story and we got the sore rumps.”

Babs covered a giggle, “And grass stains in places I’m too polite to mention.” She then fixed a sly grin on her feathered friend. “Buuuuut. I think we can all agree that between the two of us my story was the hottest.”

“As if. Keep dreaming long ears.”

They both locked eyes, staring daggers at each other and then burst out in laughter and continued on their way.

THE END
