Chapter 6
Scourge was becoming anxious about his mate's condition, so he gathered some of his energon ration and returned to the place he'd hidden her. She gladly accepted an energon cube from him.
Scourge didn't need to worry about giving the female a few cubes from his personal energon supply. He could easily hunt and devour something instead of consuming it himself. This time, Cyclonus had authorized him to go out "on patrol" so his absence would not be any matter for concern.
Suddenly the female held her abdomen and groaned. Scourge realized that her contractions were beginning. Her "water broke" and her interface panel opened to allow the fluid to drain. She lay down and went into labor. Her mate watched with a mixture of concern and interest. Several hours and a lot of straining later, a miniature Sweep--about the size of a human between the ages of 7-11--began to emerge from the birth canal head first. Scourge immediately began to clean the tiny youngster off with his rough tongue. Twenty minutes later another one was born. And then another. In all there were three cubs, each miniature versions of Scourge--minus the beard of course, which would start growing once they reached cyber-puberty.
A panel on the underside of the female slid open, providing the cubs direct access to her energy supply. They instinctively sought it and began to 'nurse.'
Scourge sighed with relief. His sons were healthy and there had been no complications. He just hoped they'd survive to maturity. He knew he'd have to teach them how to hunt--there was no way that female could do so, even if she tried. He knew he would have to get back to Chaar soon, but there was enough time to do a rudimentary patrol to justify his absence. He left several energon cubes with his mate and departed.
When Scourge returned, the Sweeps smelled him and realized that the female had given birth. Privately they were anxious to see the cubs. Scourge knew better than to let them. One time one of the Sweeps had become jealous of another Sweep's offspring, and had gone to the hiding place and killed two of the cubs. One managed to hide and survive and the mother had told her mate what had happened. The cub killer had been exiled, but he got revenge by killing the female. After that, Scourge had him hunted down and destroyed.
Finally Cyclonus questioned Scourge as to the female's current status. When he heard that she had given birth, he insisted that Scourge take him to see the cubs. Reluctantly Scourge complied.
The female Autobot was happy to see Scourge, but when Cyclonus appeared at the entrance to the den, she gasped in fear.
"Do not be alarmed," Cyclonus told her in a deep, soothing voice, "I do not intend to harm you." He picked up one of the cubs. "Hmmm, they seem to be healthy," he said, "Congratulations, Scourge."
