I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
"I'm proud of you"
A/N: I hate Charles Dickens! Poor Zuko! And still poor Zhao. Oh, and I’m sure everyone already knows this, but Zhao is voiced by Jason Iaasacs! I have an obsession with Jason Iaasacs and I never knew I was watching him! I’m so excited!
Disclaimer: I still don’t own it at all, for any reason.
Warnings: AU, rape, child abuse, violence, torture

Chapter 4: “I’m proud of you”
************************************************************************
Zuko slept unusually late the next day. When he finally emerged from his room around noon, his crew was unusually subdued.
“How is he?” Zuko asked, not bothering to explain who ‘he’ was.
Ji looked away. “He’s asleep. His physical wounds should heal alright.”
Zuko shook his head, “He’ll have some magnificent scars. I’m surprised he let you treat him so readily,” Zuko raised an eyebrow from his position of about two feet away from the older man.
Ji reached out to put his hand on Zuko’s shoulder. Zuko stepped back and Ji withdrew his hand. “We had to drug him,” Ji admitted.
Zuko nodded and went to see the sleeping Zhao. He opened the door and found the man asleep and rather more peaceful in said state than he was in waking. Zhao’s face wrinkled up in his sleep. Beads of sweat appeared on his face. Zuko reached over to Zhao’s face to soothe the nightmare.
He stroked the gaunt face in an attempt to soothe away the demons. Even in sleep Zhao was fearful of being touched. He flinched from Zuko’s hand but Zuko continued and eventually Zhao’s face relaxed.
“What was the price Prince Zuko?” Zuko turned to see his uncle in the doorway. Iroh walked over to his nephew and touched the scarred face, “What happened?”
“Nothing I can’t handle,” Zuko murmured, keeping his voice low so that Zhao wouldn’t wake.
Iroh tilted his nephew’s face upwards, “Please, what happened?”
Zuko turned his face again, “Not here,” he relented. He rose and Iroh followed. Ji’s lover the helmsman stepped into the room.
Iroh followed his nephew to the banished prince’s rooms, “Now, what happened?” He asked once more.
Zuko removed the breastplate on his armor to expose the shirt on underneath and he tugged the high collar down low enough to expose the bruise. Iroh looked puzzled so Zuko went to clarify, “An hour of my time,” he muttered, “An hour of his using me.”
“Gods, he didn’t!” Iroh gasped horrified.
“He did, I’m fine, go check on Zhao.”
Iroh stepped up to the young man, “He raped you, and you let him so that Zhao might live?” He asked
Zuko nodded
“I’m proud of you, so proud. You did the right thing.”
Zuko swallowed hard, “I’m going to see how Zhao’s doing,” he said in a half strangled voice. Iroh nodded

Thanks for reviewing Tesqura. In answer to you question, I think he’ll treat Zhao all right; he knows just how Zhao feels. Oh, and how Zhao takes all this, well, only I know. Or maybe I don’t… Thanks for the review!
