The Remnant Armada

<Ruby and Weiss are alone in the RWBY Dorm. Ruby lounges on her bunk reading ‘Swords, Also guns’. Weiss sits at the desk cleaning Myrtenaster.
 
Weiss lets out a sharp hiss of pain, rousing Ruby from her magazine.>
 
Ruby looks across: “You ok?”
 
Weiss, hissing and clutching her hand: “No, I caught my finger in the firing chamber”
 
<Ruby slips off her bunk and approaches Weiss.>
 
Ruby: “Here let me”
 
<Ruby reaches out to hold Weiss’s hand. She leans over and kisses the spot where its bright red.>
 
Ruby: “My mum used to do this for me whenever I was hurting, I thought it might work for you as well”
 
<Weiss stares dumbfounded at Ruby.
 
The door to the RWBY dorm opens.>
 
Yang: “Hey guys, how’s everyone-”
 
<Weiss bolts out of her chair and rushes towards Yang.>
 
Weiss, on the verge of hysteria: “Yang, quick, punch me in the face!”
 
 
<After Weiss insisted that Ruby and Yang get some more fashionable clothes for the summer trip, they enlisted the help of Coco Adel in choosing the most appropriate outfits. Ruby, Weiss and Yang stand waiting for Coco and Velvet in the courtyard. Coco arrives on her own.>
 
Coco: “Sorry I’m late guys. I’m afraid Velvet can’t come”
 
Ruby: “Oh no, is she sick?”


Coco: “Just a fever, she’ll be ok tomorrow”
 
Weiss: “It is always sad to hear a friend is not feeling herself”
 
Yang: “I guess you could say she’s a ‘Rabbit of negative euphoria’”
 
Weiss: “Neg- what?”
 
Yang: “Not a happy bunny”
 
<Weiss stares at Yang.>
 
Weiss, flatly: “You know, sometimes I really hate you Xiao Long”
 
 
<Team RWBY are idly talking about the best times in their lives.>
 
Ruby: “I think the time of my life was my second year at Signal. There was so much to learn, so many cool techniques and weapons to learn about”
 
Yang: “It might have been great for you. Back then I was still working part time at that waitressing job”
 
Weiss: “I was at Boarding School”
 
Blake: “I was in prison”
 
<RWY stare at Blake.>
 
Blake, flatly: “That was a joke”
 
 
<Winter is assigned as a visiting lecturer at Beacon Academy. Her first assignment is to assess Ruby and Yang while they clear a pack of Beowolves in the Emerald Forest. Unbeknownst to her, Ruby has been fostering a secret crush since they first met before the Vytal Festival.
 
Ruby hopes that she can use this opportunity to get some alone time with Winter. That is until Weiss followed them all the way from the dorms, through the Academy to the landing platform and is now sitting across the passenger compartment of the airship chatting with Winter while they prepare for take-off.>
 
Ruby whispering to Yang next to her: “What am I supposed to do? I can’t talk with Winter if Weiss is going to be there”
 
Yang: “Well, this is supposed to be an assignment. Why don’t you just tell Weiss to leave?”
 
<Ruby stares at Yang like she’s trying to process what she just said.>
 
Ruby: “Just go and tell her? Go and tell Weiss…”
 
<Ruby continues to try and make sense of what she just said.>
 
Ruby: “Right, ok. I’ll go and do that”
 
<Ruby rises off of her seat and walks stiffly across the passenger compartment towards the Schnee sisters.>
 
Ruby to Weiss: “Weiss, we’re about to leave”
 
Weiss: “Yes, fine”
 
Ruby: “I meant, if you wanted to get off. Now’s the time”
 
Weiss: “No thank you. I’ve decided I’ll be coming too”
 
<Beat>
 
Ruby: “Ok, it’s just. I think the pilot did the flight plan based on only three passengers and-”
 
Weiss, very calmly: “Ruby, think very carefully about what you are about to say. If you are suggesting that my weight will make us too heavy to take off then you will be very, very sorry”
 
<Beat>
 
Ruby: “No, no problem at all”
 
<Ruby steps back across the airship to sit with Yang.>
 
Yang: “Wow sis, you sure told her”
 
 
<Ruby and Weiss return to the RWBY dorm. They open the door to discover a sudden wash of steam spills out into the corridor>
 
Yang: “Hey, close the door! You’re letting the heat out”
 
<Ruby and Weiss step through a billow of steam into the dorm to find Yang lounging on her bunk wrapped in a white towel. A stone heater and water supply are set up in the centre of the room>
 
Ruby: “Yang, what have you done!”
 
Yang: “Surprise! It’s our own Team RWBY sauna”
 
Weiss: “Oh, what fresh hell is this?”
 
Yang: “You like it? I figured since we’re going on these long assignments, we should have something to look forward to when we get back”
 
Ruby, concerned: “Yang, I’m pretty sure there’s a rule in the school handbook about turning your dorm into a sauna”
 
Yang: “Nope, I already checked”
 
Ruby: “I’m pretty sure it was implied”
 
Weiss, frustrated: “Oh, for grimms sake Yang. Just open a window!”
 
Yang: “No, I like it hot and sweaty”
 
 
<Yang filming herself on her scroll in the RWBY dorm>
 
Yang: “Welcome back to another episode of Ancient History with Yang. Now, going back to the very first humans and Faunus there was war. And in those wars people found creative ways to gain an advantage over their enemies.
 
The ancient peoples of Vacuo and Vale were often involved in skirmishes and intrusions along their shared border. During once such incursion Vale were besieging a fort held by their enemies. Unable to overtake it by force alone the leader of the Vale troops devised a clever solution.
 
It was well known that Ancient Vacuo considered cats sacred. Using this knowledge to their advantage, the Vale soldiers carried cats with them into battle. Unwilling to risk the lives of the cats in battle the defenders swiftly surrendered.
 
Now, what’s to stop us bringing that sort of creative thinking into the modern age?”
 
Weiss, unimpressed: “Yang, you’re not seriously proposing we use Blake as some form of Faunus shield, are you?”
 
Yang: “Not Blake, the ‘Kitty Shield Mk 2’”
 
 
<Ruby and Weiss are sitting at the bar, watching Blake and Yang dancing for the first time together after their wedding>
 
Weiss, depressed: “I can’t believe this is the point I’ve reached. Sitting here, alone, sipping wine and wondering where all the time went”
 
<Beat>
 
Weiss, depressed: “Grimm’s curse, when did I become my mother?”
 
Ruby, ever optimistic: “Don’t worry Weiss, you’ve still got me”
 
<Weiss stares at Ruby>
 
Ruby, ever optimistic: “Besides, maybe being like your mum wouldn’t be so bad. To tell you the truth, I actually think she’s kind of good looking in her own way”
 
<Beat>
 
<Weiss takes a deep drink of her wine>
