chapter 3
I jerk upright, my eyes focusing on my computer desk. Blinking uncertainly, I can hear Mum laughing downstairs.
Feeling lightheaded, I get dressed, and begin to work my way downstairs. Mum is sat on the couch, talking to...
Dan. Of course. I clear my throat, and feel a large hand clap on my back.
''Danny, you have one heck of a friend here! Saving you from a bully, bringing you back here so you're safe."
"Really?" I fix him with a glare, and Dan smirks evilly. "What...uh...else did Dan tell you?"
"Just that, Daniel, and nothing more." He grins, sipping at the tea he's holding. "Come and have some tea?"
I nod, sitting next to him. He throws an arm around me, and I turn red.
"Uh, Dad, where's Jazz?" I ask, exhaling. Dad frowns.
"She stayed at Sam's, I think." He taps his chin, and grins. "I'd better carry on working on the Fenton Portal."
"Wait a moment, Jack, you're not going anywhere without me." Mum sighs. "It was nice to meet you Dan, I don't think Danny would be safe at home if it weren't for you."
Dan tilts his head in acknowledgement. "Well. Parents are out of the way, sister is out of the way at a friend's. Maybe we should have a good old talk."
I feel a faint bubble of anger. "Yes, we should. You have to stop kissing me, it's not right!"
"Not right? You seem to enjoy it." Dan smirks, moving closer. I push away, now against the couch arm.
"Danny, you've beaten me once, and I was only let out with the condition that I didn't do anything against your will. That means that you want this as much as I do, dear boy."
I blink at him. "Then why did you hit me when you were fighting Dash?"
Dan wraps an arm around me, and I feel his hand push against my shoulders. "It was an accident. It won't happen again, I promise."
I nod uncertainly, my fingers curling around the hand he places in my lap.
"Would you like to give this a try?" Dan grins. I stare up at him for a moment.
He's me. When I'm older, and evil, and...part-Vlad. But he wants us to have a relationship. He wants us to have something special between us.
"Isn't this just a little...self-centered?" I ask him quietly. He grins.
"At least I already know what you like, and don't like."
I frown, and he lifts my chin up a little, leaning down to my ear.
"Look at it this way, if you like. You said you'd never become me, so technically, it's valid. We're different people. Unless, of course, you want to go into specifics?"
I raise and eyebrow. "Specifics?"
Dan smirks, and licks my neck, just under my ear, making me shudder. "No Florida-shaped birthmark on me, Danny."
I'm pretty sure my ears just caught fire. I growl at him, and he picks up the TV remote, laughing, and settles down to watch whatever cartoon was blaring at us.
I snuggle down against him, feeling slightly better about all this. But still, not entirely convinced.
