Stability
Since I doubt I'll get into it later, I should just get a little bit more information out there about Megatron and his feelings towards Starscream. He did love him at one time. Back before he fucked up big time and ruined everything, he was pretty much madly in love with the seeker. But he is a selfish character who can't really understand how other's can't appreciate his greatness. He just assumed that Starscream would get over his shyness and allow him to sweep him off is feet. It didn't work that way. Starscream always sensed that Megatron was a self centered character and didn't want to invest too much in him right away incase Megatron changed his mind. And so he didn't want to be intimate too soon and have Megatron just up and end everything for another mech or out of boredom. In a way, their relationship was doomed from the begining. Starscream never truly trusted him and Megatron honestly didn't bother to understand why his partner was so adverse to intimacy.
So, because Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons he can't dwell on mistakes and let them consume him. He didn't allow himself to mourn loosing Starscream. So, rather then hate Starscream or hate himself, he simpley did what he had to to continue being the fierce leader that he is. He made himself believe that he had every right to do what he did. He made Starscream into an object and no long an equal. And therefore, he stopped loving him. Of course, Starscream will always feel something for Megatron even though he broke his heart. Megatron will never hate Starscream for fear of destroying him. He doesn't want end the jet's life before he has a chance to get revenge. But Starscream has to earn it. He won't just hand it over and if it ever came down to his life or Starscream's, Megatron will kill him in self defense. He will always feel the guilt of what he did and uses that guilt to remind himself that he owes Starscream a chance to take his life. He will continue to take what he wants from Starscream if only to keep convicing himself that he has the right and to keep up the appearance that he doesn't feel regret. However, Starscream knows he regrets it and that's why he can't stop loving Megatron.
Sigh...they are seriously messed up...
Chapter 28 : Stability
A few agonizing, and terribly annoying, days later Megatron was nearly his old self. His back had almost completely healed if not for the constant squirming in response to his companion's desire for verbal sparing matches. Not that he didn't somewhat, and morbidly, enjoy the distractions. Being stuck in a repair bay, and being "handled" with such care unnerved the silver tyrant more then he would ever admit. However, after nearly two weeks of being stuck on one's back, without the usual luxuries that this would entail, was beginning to drive him crazy. Especially since Soundwave had not reported their mission failure yet. Not to mention the lingering sense of his second in command still wreaking havoc in his core.
After convincing several Constructicons that he was fit to begin leading the Decepticons once again, leaving to a dozen or so dentals knocked out of the collective group of them, they allowed the communications officer to make his report. Unfortunately for him, none of the others had half credible witness statements to truly peg the blame on the two seekers. The whole mess and confusion had the poor blue mech chased out of the med bay with colorful curses and some very heavy blunt objects tossed in his direction with furious intent. Starscream's cruel shrieks of laughter following.
The entire scenario ended even more disastrously when the General had over exerted himself in an attempt to shut the air commander up. He toppled off of the med table berth, landing directly on his still fairly fractured skull, knocking several vital circuits loose and earning himself three more days of laying on his back with fawning medics and their handy EMP too keep him still. Starscream never let him live it down for a second. Luckily the lovely electromagnetic tool had the same effect on the red and white jet.
Megatron realized, with a sore cranium as proof, that this entire situation that the universe had cursed him with had gone on long enough. Things had to change. Things had to go back to normal. Or as normal as it ever got aboard the Nemesis.
Starscream was napping. It was the only time the little cretin was quiet. While the silence had been a gift from Primus himself, Megatron had a few things on his mind. He knew the seeker's higher functions were off and waking him would require more then a loud shout. Carefully, he sat himself up right and took a half drank energon cube from the small end table at the side of his berth. The cube flew fairly well considering how aerodynamically impaired it was, sloshing the remaining contents across the sleeping mech's face. Starscream woke with a jerk as the fluid ran into his optics and down his chassis.
"By the Pit!" He shrieked as he struggled under the weight of his damaged body, unable to fully sit upright. "What is WRONG with you!?"
"We need to have a little talk." Megatron replied as the jet spat and wiped at his face.
"You couldn't have waited until I was awake?" Starscream huffed indignantly, giving up entirely on sitting so he could face the bastard.
"Well, this was a much better way of getting your attention."
"You are such a slagger!" The Con settled himself as if he were about to drop off back to sleep. "You can wait until I'm damn ready to talk to you."
"I think you will be interested in what I have to say, Starscream." The silver mech arranged himself so that he sat more comfortably, cross legged and leaning against the wall. He always preferred the feeling of a sturdy wall against his back. Made it harder for someone to jab a knife in there.
"There's nothing I want to say to you, Megatron." The seeker spat the name as if it were poison in his mouth. "Other then cursing you every dirty thing I can think of."
"Yes and while that is fun, it's hardly productive." The larger mech sighed. "Just listen to me. You don't have to reply."
The jet didn't respond, but Megatron could detect the faintest twitch of a brow, indicating the other Decepticon's interest.
"I've decided to give up on capturing Prime."
As if invisible strings had suddenly attached themselves to Starscream's chassis and started pulling, the mech slowly sat up in a confused daze. Fighting back a grunt of pain, he swung his legs out over the side of the med table, steadying his shaking frame by clutching tightly to the edge of the metal slab he had occupied for weeks now. His optics wide and fixing Megatron with an expression of utter shock.
"Wha...what did you say?"
"I said I've decided to give up on capturing Prime. It was foolish of me to attempt it and it nearly off lined me, prematurely ending this war in a less than favorable outcome."
A grin slowly etched it's way across the seeker's face as his surprise melted away into something just short of glee.
"Don't celebrate just yet." The other growled, narrowing his gaze at his second in command. "I didn't say I was going to give up on him entirely. I still plan on claiming him for myself. However, I cannot lose sight of my goals by making him a priority."
"You'll never have him." Starscream gloated, not bothering to hide his amusement. "You've failed, and you'll continue to fail. He'll never give you another chance now."
Megatron sneered. "You shouldn't be so merry at my decision, Starscream. This means I'll have more time to focus solely on you."
"Just knowing that you will never get your greasy mitts on him gives me a great joy that even your worst performances cannot dampen."
The two stared at one another for a moment. Megatron wearing a frown so sour it could melt metal and Starscream with a victorious grin stamped all over his face. The tyrant broke optic contact first, clenching his fist as his dentals grit together. He knew Starscream would be thrilled to hear that Prime was no longer in immediate danger. However, he had to cast off the humility and find redemption in the fact that he was attempted to get his army back to normal. The seeker's small victory still left a nasty taste in his mouth, though. Luckily, normal included punishing the traitor on a regular basis and revenge would soon be his.
"Why would you tell me this, Megatron?" The jet smirked even wider. "You knew that I would be thrilled to hear such news."
"I don't care if you spring an oil leak over it or not. The fact of the matter is you still belong to me. You're brother's are still at my mercy and you are still under control because of that. This war will continue as if nothing happened and we....you, me, and even Prime, will benefit from moving on and keeping our comrades from ever finding out. Not only are you and Prime in danger if this situation is made public, but so am I. If the other's find out that I know of your little affair with the Autobot, then even I could get myself scrapped for letting you live. I'm not willing to die for your sins, Starscream. It is better if we agree here and now to forget this entire mess."
Starscream seemed to ponder his leader's words for a moment. Letting the message sink in and weighing his options.
"You do know I'll never forgive you for what you've done, Megatron." The jet frown. "For any of it. For the past, for what you've done to Optimus, for threatening my brothers. I still plan on dethroning you one day."
"If you can ever manage to do it Starscream, you are most welcome to try."
"I intend to." He nodded. "And when I do, I'll end this war. I'll do what even you are not capable of and bring peace to Cybertron."
"You will really toss all of our hard work away, by declaring peace between our factions?" Megatron shook his head, feigning disbelief. "All because you and Optimus fucked a couple of times?"
"It's the right thing to do." The jet growled. "Even if it did take falling in love with an Autobot to realize this."
"You're a fool."
"Maybe." He agreed, a small smile gracing his lips. "But at least I know where I stand now. Right between you and Optimus."
"Not anymore." Megatron stood, holding back the grimace as his body protested the movement. He slowly limped his way over to Starscream who barely twitched as the larger Con grew closer. "You will obey me completely or suffer the consequences."
"You're right. I will obey. I have no choice after all. My wing mates must be protected and you're much easier to deal with when you are satisfied. However, I will never allow you to get a hold of Prime. I will kill him if need be. But you shall never have him. He belongs to me. And my loyalty belongs to him."
Once Megatron was close enough, he reached out and grasped the seeker's chin in his servo, tilting his pretty face up so that they were optic to optic.
"Not for long. I will crush the Autobots and steal Prime from you one day. If you stand in my way, I will make you suffer. As for you loyalty, it's not worth the dirt on my pedes. Prime can have it."
"So I guess we have an agreement then." Starscream didn't try to tug free from the grip. "You keep your word and I'll obey you completely until that day when I destroy you. If you break your promise I'll kill him before you ever get the chance to capture him."
"Just so long as you keep your word, Traitor." The tyrant drew closer, his helmet brushing the air commander's. "You follow my orders and I won't hurt your brothers."
"Shall we shake on it?"
"I've got a better idea." Megatron growled as he closed the distance between them, bringing their lips together.
Starscream groaned and pushed back. His core immediately hungering for it's bond mate despite his hatred for the other mech. Another unfortunate side effect of a merge. His blue servos snuck up and clawed at the large silver chest before him. Megatron deepened the kiss, allowing the treasonous mech to nip at his glossa before retaliating by biting down on the other's bottom lip.
They parted before things got too heated. Their oaths made and already the two brilliant minds beginning their treacherous scheming for the future. Starscream rested his head against his leader's chest as Megatron toyed with his wings. The normally tender gestures acting as silent messages between the two. Every touch relaying a secret language that only the tyrant and his second in command could understand. Promises of revenge and threats for any act of disobedience.
"So, what's our next plan, My Lord?"
"We recover." Megatron replied, still teasing a tender seem in his second's wing, enjoying the shudder it produced. "Once we are back on our feet, I will confine you to my quarters for an entire day where you will not be permitted to leave until I have been thoroughly convinced of your obedience. Then we shall plan our next move against the Autobots."
Starscream nuzzled closer to his master's chest, if only to keep the other from seeing the weariness in his optics.
"Of course..." He muttered trying to hide how he truly felt about the entire situation. A part of his spark happy to know that Prime was safe once again and that things were returning to some resemblance of stability. Another part ached at reswearing his allegience to Megatron.
"Brilliant strategy as always."
