Chapter 27: Best-laid Plans
*this chapter is dedicated to Insanity for making me feel lurved (the next shall be for hellsoldier for making me feel uber-lurved *g* Feel honoured, my pig-smellies!)
As night fell outside the base, Zim and Dib stood next to their ships in the repair bay, in front of a large digital map of the Octagon and the general surrounding area.
“Okay, so right here is the Off-White House, and that’s where we should hit first, as a distraction. With the cloaking devices on, they won’t be able to see us coming, and we’ll have dropped the explosives before they even know we’re there. While the Armed Forces are busy trying to put that fire out, we’ll hit them right here—” Dib pointed to the main grounds where the Armed Forces were stationed nearby. “That’s going to put them into even more disarray, which is great. We want as much distraction as possible. Then we simply drop one load in the middle of the military station, and then we hit the Octagon at the entrances here, here and here.” He pointed to a few separate spots along the walls of the building in the diagram. “I’ve increased the concentration of the virus in the canisters and put the solution in liquid form at high pressure, so the second the canister hits the ground the virus will vaporize and the entire area is as good as infected…I’m guessing it should fan out almost a half-mile in every direction, depending on wind variations.” Dib set the pointer aside and put the earpiece in for his communication linkup with the Voot Runner, making sure the microphone was positioned properly and then fastening the chin strap on his helmet.
Zim nodded, already at the controls of the Voot Runner, his communicator in place, not bothering with a helmet. “And that’s it, yes? A fairly simple operation. It shouldn’t take long at all.”
Dib shook his head. “Probably not. I’m going to hop in and close the shield so I can test the communicator. I just want to make sure it’s working properly before we take off.”
Climbing into Tak’s ship and closing the shield, he looked over at Zim, flipping the switch for the communication channel between the ships. “How are you hearing me?”
“Fine.” Zim rolled his eyes. Dib and his silly precautions…
“Great. I hear you strength five. I’ll follow your lead.”
Zim opened his mouth to ask what the human’s strong five had to do with anything, then closed it, figuring it was unimportant. The ships were brought up to the launch pad by the base’s elevator, and the roof opened up to allow the liftoff.
Both ships took off under the cover of night, speeding towards their destination.
President Land.
