Ghost Command

Things had been quiet at Ghost Command since the night of the kidnapping and ue. ue. They assumed that Prime Evil had a lot of ghosts to punish, as they were all long gone before he likely even knew that they had been there.

Tracey, Belfry and Eddie decided to take advantage of the peace and quiet by taking in a baseball game. Jake declined to join them. He’d been very sullen since Jessica slammed the door in his face, and to their knowledge, he’d made no efforts to try to contact her. It was as if he’d resigned himself to some fate that he didn’t want to fight. And that fate didn’t include the woman he obviously loved. But whatever it was, he was clearly doing it for her.

Jake sat at his desk staring up at the ceiling thinking about how much of a mess he’d made of his life as of late. Then the phone rang. He slowly sat forward and reached for it. Answ-a-Bone had been scolded by the other office supplies to stop teasing at least Jake, but Eddie told him to keep doing it, because it might snap him out of his funk.

As it was, Answ-a-Bone was happy to deliver. “Hello! You’ve reached the Ghostbusters. Eddie and Tracey are out of the office, and Jake is out of his mind!” He cackled in his typical electrical snicker. Jake grabbed the receiver, barely aware of the insult. “Ghostbusters. Jake Kong.”

“Jake.”

He sat bolt upright. “Jess?”

“Yes. I just wanted to let you know that I’m pregnant. We won’t be needing to see each other anymore. Thank you for your help in this matter. Good-bye.” She started to hang up.

“WAIT!” She paused and brought the phone back to her ear.

“Yes?”

He took a deep breath and gathered his courage about him. “Please don’t end it this way, Jess. I know why you’re leaving me and I’m sorry. I’ll do anything. I . . . I’d even give up something that I love so much if you’ll just let me be a part of my child’s life.”

Jessica’s blood was practically boiling. She thought that what he meant to give up was Futura. “Oh, I wouldn’t want you to do that! Since you love this . . . this . . .” She started to cry. wil will NEVER get near my child! Do you understand me, you bastard? NEVER!”

Now it was Jake’s turn to be angry. “I tell you I’d give up the only thing I’ve ever wanted in my life for you, and this is how you treat me!?”

“Oh get over yourself! This wasn’t about me! You wanted a kid, and you used me to get it!”

“That sounds more like what you did!”

“Maybe I did! But I didn’t lie or cheat to get it!” She slammed the phone down.

“What? What thll all are you talking about? Hello? Hello!” He let out an enraged roar and slammed the receiver down hard. Answ-a-Bone cringed as his teeth rattled, and then slipped slowly out of Jake’s reach.

Jake left the desk area and sat on the couch. He was staring off in the distance when he noticed the Skelevision smirking at him. “What!”

Skelly just stared back at him, then replied. “Smooth.”
