Voyeurism
PART 25
As luck would have it, the Bone-troller was still set to spy on Jessica’s apartment and Ghost Command only, so Prime Evil and his goons were completely clueless to the fact that the Ghostbusters were right under their noses. The master of Haunt Quarters sat in his throne room, planning all kinds of torment for Jessica and Jake. He then gave Long John Scarechrome a message to take to Ghost Command, demanding Jake’s immediate surrender, or the next time he faced the ghosts of Haunt Quarters, Jessica would be one of them.
Scarechrome was strolling along the hallway toward his ship, when he was busted by Eddie, who had heard the deceased sea dog’s characteristic peg-legged footfalls. He took the message to Jake, who read it and frowned darkly. His face was filled with such rage, Futura actually got a little frightened. She released his arm and walked next to Tracey instead.
Eddie busted several more ghosts, and little Belfry took out a whole fleet of them with one sonic blast. They reachhe dhe dungeons with much less trouble than usual. They searched through the caverns, cell by cell, until they came to the one that housed Jessica.
Trasmassmashed down the wall and they all went in to see if she was all right. Jessica got up from her seated position and walked calmly over to Jake. “You’re early.”
“Is that a problem?” smi smiled, relieved beyond words that she was unhurt and not angry.
“Not at all.” She hugged him tightly. He held her with his good arm. She felt the absence of the other arm and broke their embrace. “Your arm! What happened?”
“Tell you later. We should get out of here. But there’s just one thing I need to do first.”
“What?” she asked.
“This.” ben bent her back and kissed her deeply. Tracey and Belfry smiled at each other, while Eddie busted two more ghouls in the corridor. He glanced back at them and grinned.
The only person who was not happy about this was Futura. She stood in the cell staring at them in disbelief. She’d known this day would eventually come, but she had no idea it was already too late. Her heart broke as she saw her chance to be with Jake just one time slip away.
“I . . . I have something I need to do back home. I forgot,” she offered lamely. “I’m glad you’re okay Jess.” Jessica opened her eyes to see Futura leave, and se wae was the only one to see her friend wipe tears from her eyes as she disappeared.
‘Oh my God.’ It all made sense now. That’s the real reason Jake was so eager to keep her secret. That’s why he seemed to be keeping something. And he was asking if her brother would want to know who the father was to make sure he wouldn’t!He was fucking Futura! She, Jessica, was the other woman! She pushed Jake away and stood at a distance from him. She stared coldly into his eyes.
Jake was confused at first, but then he figured out what must have been wrong. ‘So it’s true. My job is the reason she doesn’t want to see me any more.’
He turned away from her guiltily. She thought it was because he realized he’d hurt Futura. Neither of them said another word until they got to Jessica’s apartment. Eddie offered to give them time alone, but Jessica said that wouldn’t be necessary. She went into her apartment and slammed the door behind her.
“Geez!” Belfry said. “That’s a pretty cold reception for a rescue party!”
“Yeah!” Eddie said. “Especially when one of the rescuers is her injured boyfriend. I figured she’d wanna spend the night ‘nursing you back to health’ if you catch my meaning.”
Jake sighed hey any and shook his head. “No. I didn’t think she would.” He turned and went back to GB. “Come on. Let’s go home.”
