Disclaimer:
I do not own Gargoyles/Disney related but the original character, Eve Anderson, is from my own mind and is not a character of Disney. I get no pay and am only doing this for fun
chapter 22
The warm cocoon around her slowly disappears and sounds finally reach her. She doesn’t know where she is at or why she is there, but the feeling she is supposed be there is strong. A familiar voice calls to her, pulling her back to consciousness.
“So you don’t know why she’s been out for the past 4 days?” Fox gently taps her foot in distress. “Is there anything you can do?” “You can stop tapping your foot for starters.” Eve growls, her head pounding. “It sounds like a jackhammer in my head right now.” “Oh thank god!” Fox rushes to her side, relief showing as Eve finally sees her through slitted eyes. “What happened?” Eve tries to sit up but the pounding in her head makes her nauseous. Fox gently pushes her back down, seeing her face go white with the effort to sit. “You are in no shape to move yet. Just sit still and listen for once.” Seeing Eve quietly watch her and stop moving tells Fox she is more hurt than she first believed. She silently moves a chair over as the doctor she had been talking to steps closer to listen. “You were bit by a rattle snake as you were pulled out. You’ve been treated for the bite but you’ve been out since then. Can you remember anything?” Eve frowns, the pain making her fuzzy. “I remember Owen fighting to keep us safe and the snakes biting those around us reaching in the opening. I backed up to get away from the snakes and I hit my head on an overhang.” She closes her eyes again. “I don’t remember anything else.” The doctor lays a hand on Fox’s shoulder. “She probably has just a concussion but I’ll order and x-ray and CT scan just to be sure.” He quickly leaves, calling a nurse to him as he steps into the hallway. Fox waits til he is out of hearing distance before she continues. “We haven’t told anyone here where you were when this happened. It would be hard to explain transporting you thousands of miles away in a few seconds.” Eve nods her understanding so she continues. “We nearly had to drag Owen away from you when he realized you were hurt. He’s been here every moment we don’t have him busy waiting for you to wake up.” “Call him.” Eve croaks out, her throat feeling dry. “If you don’t, he’ll go crazy. Please.” “I’ll call him if you promise to rest and do everything the doctors tell you to do.” Fox holds up the phone as Eve nods her acceptance. “I’ll be back to check on you. Ok?” “Ok.” Eve starts to drift off again, her energy nearly spent.
