Zim against the world

Zim looked at Dib, grinning smugly. Surely the Dib-human would be impressed at such technology to say the least. No doubt he would rush over to the machines, marveling at each spectacular picture of Irken technology in turn. The Dib was smart..... as humans went, and he might be the only one that could truly start to appreciate the advanced technology. Zim's grin ,however, began to fade as Dib just stood there, amber eyes unreadable.

Confused, and slightly hurt at the lack of reaction, Zim turned away, antenna drooping. Why wasn't the Dib interested? Knowing the Dib he would probably start to laugh at him now. After a couple minutes he turned back to see Dib in the exact position he had left him, staring at the technology. Curious, he waved a hand in front of Dib's face.... no reaction. With a jolt he realized the Dib had gone into shock! All his life he had wanted to be part of something great, explore, see what was to be seen beyond the stars. And now he was in an alien's lab. The impact of seeing all the advanced stuff must have been nearly too much for him. Zim waved his hand in front of Dib's face again.

Slowly Dib turned, a look of pure ecstasy etched on his face. "Zim this is amazing!!" Zim leaped out of the way as he crashed past, walking slowly from one machine to the next, taking in what he saw. Though he walked slowly, his steps were light, as if there was some sort of energy surging through him.

Zim laughed at him..... but it wasn't the laugh he had expected. Instead of being laced with smug pride, it was soft and ...... affectionate. The thought made him physically flinch in surprise. Affection? He turned to the black haired boy who was examining a huge gun, obviously trying his hardest not to immediately leap upon it and examine it closer. Why had the thought suddenly crossed his mind? Affection was a sign of weakness. Only those who had proved themselves in battle or as an Invader, or in some other way had contributed all he could to the empire, could feel such things. Any other time and it wasn't right. It was alright to show weakness as the prime of you life was over..... but not until then. And besides. This was DIB! His enemy, they hated each other to death.... but Dib had saved him. Even though it had just been because he was the only proof he had..... could it be that.....

A heat flared near Zim's head, vaporizing a large hole in the wall behind him. He snapped back to reality and looked over to see Dib looking guility back at him. The large gun that he had been examining earlier held loosely in his hands. Zim glared at him angrily, not just because he had nearly been killed, but because Dib had caught him off-guard. Something a good Invader would never have done. "Dib! What are you doing with that vaporizer? Put it down before you do any more damage!"

He stomped over to Dib and took the gun away, feeling the smooth metal tingling slightly under his fingertips in the afterchange. A small grin flitted to his lips as he put the vaporizer on lock. Looking around he spotted what he was looking for. A large, similer gun was nearby.... only it was smaller... and yellow. The barrel of it was painted over with black paint. Being black and yellow, it looked rather like a large hornet. Zim had gone to great lengths to get this particular weapon. He had thought ahead in case Dib might ever be there... with him.... alone. Maybe some day when Dib had trusted Zim. That day was now.

Dib took a step back, his brow creased in thought. "Hey wait a sec... that looks kinda familiar..."

Zim smiled darkly, fingering it slightly. "I only got it a little while ago. You should be proud that I took the time to get it. He raised it, then aimed it............ pointing it at Dib. "I got it just for you. Just to see the look on your face when I shoot. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Biding my time.... I even covered the barrel up so you wouldn't recognize what it was right away. He gave Dib a cocky grin as Dib's eyes widened in pained betrayal. "Say your prayers Dib-human." And he put his finger on the trigger.

Oh yeah who's bad? I managed to get on. I realized.... I wanted to write so badly. I noticed I had some new reviews and I nearly flipped!! My first cliffhanger.... my first REAL cliffhanger. You'll just have to wait to see what happens. Sorry about the short chapter. I will write a longer one if I can later.
