Lieumon Week Prompt 2

Lieumon Week Prompt #2: Flirt

Title: Flirt

Summary: Amon asks Lieutenant to teach him how to flirt

Warnings: None

Rating: PG

It was almost Valentine’s Day. Almost everyone in Republic City that didn’t participate in Singles’ Awareness Day had their sights on someone to ask to be their valentine already. One would think the Equalists wouldn’t care for such a mediocre holiday, but they admired love just as much as the next person. Some just didn’t know how to love. Amon was a perfect example of that.

There was a soft knock on the door. Looking up from a leather-bound book, Lieutenant glanced at it behind round reading glasses. Another knock came seconds after. Closing the book, he set it aside on his bedside table, stood up, and went to it. He opened it, a little surprised to see Amon standing there.

Is everything okay?” he asked.

Yes, everything’s fine,” Amon answered. “I just wanted to ask you something.”

What is it?”

Amon looked around behind him. Lieutenant found this a bit strange. Looking back inside, Amon tried to enter. Lieutenant was hesitant, so he took a clumsy step back. Amon shut the door and moved towards his bed.

I hate to ask this for fear of sounding pathetic,” he turned back around, “but how does one flirt with another?”

Lieutenant was surprised by such a question. He turned to face him, a small frown on his face. “What makes you think I would know the answer to that, Amon? I haven’t flirted with anyone while you were around. In fact, I doubt I have ever flirted, now that I think about it,” he added, almost absentmindedly.

You are more of a people person than I have been in my lifetime, Lieutenant,” Amon answered. “You must know how to tell someone that they like another without actually saying it. I want to learn before Valentine’s Day.”

Amon? Care about Valentine’s Day? What absurdity was this? Lieutenant cleared his throat while taking off his glasses.

I don’t think flirting is something that can be taught.” He started cleaning the lenses with the bottom of his white tank top. “I would think it comes naturally.”

I am not so sure,” Amon said, watching Lieutenant’s hands. He followed them as he put his glasses back on. “If flirting isn’t an option, how should I approach someone?”

Lieutenant stared hard at him. “Well, for a day like Valentine’s Day, the best thing to do is give someone a gift. For example, girls like receiving flowers and chocolates. Or a teddy bear, I suppose.”

I’m afraid this person isn’t feminine.”

Hmmmm…it all depends on what this person likes then. Though pretty much everyone likes chocolate.”

Do you?”

Lieutenant was taken aback by this question. “Do I like chocolate? …I prefer tea, actually. But what does my likes have to do with this person? Who are you even referring to?”

Amon took a step toward him. “Lieutenant, I’m just trying to bounce ideas off you.”

Lieutenant looked quizzically at him. “No, it sounds like you’re talking about me-” Lieutenant trailed off. Amon stopped until he was almost up against him. Realization hit him. “You are talking about me.”

Amon gave a short inclination of his head. “Lieutenant…will you be my valentine?”

Lieutenant opened and closed his mouth a few times, unsure of what to say. Amon just stared at him, his eyes unblinking. When his mind got back on track, Lieu closed his mouth and swallowed.

Why do you want me?”

There was a pause. Slowly reaching up, Amon grabbed the left earpiece between his thumb and pointer finger and carefully pulled the glasses off Lieutenant’s still confused face. With both hands, he lowered the earpieces to the center, grabbed the back of the man’s hand and lifted it, and pressed the glasses into his palm.

Because I want you to be, Lieutenant. What other reason is there?”

Lieutenant stared at Amon’s mask. He still gripped his hand and glasses with both his own, staring into his crystal blue eyes. After a few seconds of silent staring, Lieutenant lowered his gaze to their hands, waited, and then closed his fingers around the glasses and Amon’s fingers. A small smile appeared on his face as he felt the warmth of those strong fingers.

I would love to be your valentine."
