Dark winter chapter 2
Author Jenna raven rose
If I had frozen him while we were moving I might have killed us both. She closed her eyes trying to put his face out of her mind. The cold was really part of her healing ability. She had used it before to lessen the swelling on an injury. She had never used it to hurt someone before. Her next ride found her at the rest stop. She was huddled by the bathroom crying and begging god for forgiveness.
The old man offered her a ride without a second thought. He took her as far as Florida in his pickup truck. The driver was lively and talkative and soon had her forgiving herself. It was after all self-defense he had reasoned with her. What was she expected to do let him rape her, not. With her conscience now at ease he left her in Tallahassee, with more money. One more ride from another trucker put her in a small town outside of Miami, Florida.
It was pretty late when she arrived, most everything looked closed. Except for a broken neon sign that read do uts 24hrs. She headed for it. The place was deserted except for a teenage clerk. The man behind the counter felt sorry for her so waved off the offer of payment for the soda and donuts. She sat there in the shop munching on donuts and talking to the clerk.
When they walked in, they looked like trouble and that’s what they were. The clerk raised his finger to his lips, hushing her. She watched the clerk stiffen with fear when they came in. Didn’t these people ever hear of a grocery store? thought the clerk, why me? The big blond one sauntered over to the counter, like he owned the place. “I want these here chocolate ones,” he said making his selections.
He talked in a British accent, which was odd for a biker thought Angel. Angel watched the now nervous clerk almost drop the whole tray of donuts, taking it out of the case. “Hey be careful mate, don’t be dropping our food” said the dark haired one. While she watched them. Another one of them had snuck around behind her and was now seated right in back of her.
“Sometimes those two can be complete morons,” he whispered into her ear. He was close enough that she felt his breath on her ear. She jumped at the sound of his voice and its closeness. “Sorry beautiful, didn’t mean to scare you” Zandar purred moving closer. She stiffened determined not to be put off guard by this fellow. “I just didn’t see you,” she answered.
Trying hard to ignore this man. She turned away from him to check on the clerk. When another biker and a chick with pink hair sat down at the table next to hers. “She seems to be ignoring you, Zandar,” teased the chick “maybe she’s’ just shy” chided the big guy with her at the table. “Aw you aren’t shy are you angel” the guy Zandar teased. Zandar started to move closer to her. Just then the clerk dropped a whole tray of donuts on the floor.
The blond one grabbed him by the collar. “Why you stupid” The blond started to say. The clerk was terrified, the man was begging for his life and apologizing. She had to do something quick, before that sweet young man was pulverized. So in a completely uncharacteristic move, she stood up and said. “Leave him alone!”
Maybe it was all the travel that had made her bold. Or maybe it was her newfound talent that gave her the strength. All she knew is that what these bullies were doing was wrong. The blond froze in disbelief. Did that little blond girl just tell me what to do? “What if I don’t sweetheart, watcha going to do, slap me,” he laughed.
“Hey Zandar you better come get your girlfriend before she gets hurt” said the dark haired one. “Yeah the little girls going to get hurt, aren’t ya love” teased the one with the beard. Zandar had already started to rise; he was worried about just that. Zartan and Zarana watched the drama unfold. Zartan had to admit the girl had balls.
