Voyeurism
PART 18
The residents of Ghost Command were watching the same horror film Jessica had turned off when the phone rang. Answ-a-Bone gave a wicked grin and danced out of Eddie’s grasp as the brunette Ghostbuster dove for the receiver.
“Hi. You’ve reached the Ghostbusters. They’re back from Ver, bu, but their brains got lost with their luggage!” He cackled with laughter, which gave Jake the opportunity he needed to sneak up behind him and pick up the receiver.
“Ghostbusters. Jake speaking.” He smiled broadly when he heard her laughing. “You know, you’re the only one we allow to get away with laughing at this electronic comedian! I hope you realize that!” She laughed even louder, and this time Eddie could hear clearly who it was.
“Tell Jessica I hel hello.”
“Eddie says hello.” She stopped laughing long enough to return the greeting. “She says hi back.” He turned his attention to her. “So, Giggles, what do you want?”
She chuckled again. “Well, I was hoping that you could come up with a plausible excuse to leave Ghost Command and come here for the night. I miss you and I can’t sleep.”
Jake turned beet red and whispered to her, “You know, Answ-a-Bone can still hear you.”
“Mm hm. And Answ-a-Bone already knows what we’ve been up to, so stop stalling, make an excuse, and get your ass over here. I’m horny.” And with that, she hung up.
Answ-a-Bone took one look at Jake’s crimson face and cracked up. He laughed so hard he fell off the desk. The other furnishings fell out laughing too. They were even more tickled that Eddie, Tracey, and Belfry didn’t have a clue.
Jake frowned at each and every one of them and then turned to Eddie, tall tale firmly in mind. “Listen, Eddie. Jessica needs me.” Answ-a-Bone let out a huge roar of laughter at his choice of words. Jake kicked him into the corner and threw a couch pillow at him. “Anyway, it’s gonna take a while, so don’t wait up. I’ll probably just crash on her couch.”
The haunted furniture laughed even harder at that bold-faced lie. Eddie and Tracey exchanged a puzzled look. Jake rolled his eyes and went to his room to pack an overnight bag.
