Of Cats and Men

When Schwenk awoke he was in his bed, his darling Myra hugged and kissed him until Schwenk laughed in protest.

“You trying to kill me…….”

“I want you to get better so soon……to be out of this bed, to walk with me……to talk to me……please make it soon…..” she simpered.

“Wow….now that’s what I call a passionate plea for better health. Thank you, darling….I’ll be up and at ‘em really soon!”

“Promise?” she asked

“Promise!” he replied.

“Good…….because I want to kick you stupid arse three times around this city wall…..” she glowered. The human opened his mouth in protest.

“Oh no you don’t Gaston Schwenk…..first of all I find out you tried to get yourself killed with Gaius…oh, and Aurelio, then you end up nearly wiping out a village and then…AND THEN……you completely ignored me telling you to say nothing…..Same Schwenk….pig-headed, deaf and completely……..completely……..needed….” she hugged him, great big hot, heaving tears flowed from his tigress. Schwenk felt awful.

“I’m out of the killing game…….I’ve got you back and I’ll never get myself in trouble again, I’ll never leave your side….I promise…..I promise……”

The pair spent an hour reassuring each other and being hopelessly devoted to each other. Eventually Schwenk sent Myra away to rest and sleep a long, trouble free sleep. Ten minutes into his solitude Aurelio walked into his room and sat on the bed. It creaked and groaned in protest.

“Aurelio…..I was dragged back unconscious……Please…..I’m begging you….I’ll do anything….please….”

“Oh stop…..it’s pathetic…..We did agree no begging etc, etc, etc…….”

“I know but….but…..”

“Shut up……I’m not here to kill you……..The agreement is over now…..Lani and Myra would NOT stop nagging me……blah, blah, blah…….bloody hell…..” he snorted in derision.

“You mean…..”

“Yeah……you have a clean slate with me…..But…..”

“But??”

“You just said that ‘you’d do anything’……”

“Well…….yeah….but…..”

“No buts…….it’s a deal……”

“A deal? I haven’t agreed to any deal…….”

The lion raised his eyebrows.

“Oh? So now you’re laying there all pathetic like calling me a liar???”

“No! No, no, no……” came the emphatic response.

“Good……when you’re healed, we’ll talk again……..”

“Yes…..erm…..thanks for the visit……”

Aurelio stood up and the bed breathed a sigh of relief.

“Yes……it was nice……”

“Yes….it was…..Well, be seeing you…..”

He looked at the human.

“Oh yes…….count on it……” he pointed with his forefinger and moved his thumb like a gun. He then stomped down the stairs.

“Bugger…….” he groaned.
