Protect your master

Zim closed his eyes for a second, reviewing the information he had. Dib was unconsious, the danger of his wounds unknown. It was beginning to rain and if he didn't get out of it soon, he would literally disinergrate. The gang who had chased him before was nowhere to be seen but that didn't mean that they couldn't come back at any second.

Feeling more raindrops burning his skin he shook his head. Enough thinking, more doing. He grabbed Dib under his arms and began dragging him to the nearest shop. He reconized the dirty appearence and sighed in relief. It was the kinky shop they had been at before, the shop that he had gotten all his jewelry from.

Before he could get to it though, voices sounded behind him and he looked over his shoulder to see the guys from before following them. Most of them had been beaten unconsious by Dib but a few were still up, and after revenge. The muscle man was gone, probably still laying on the ground in shock but now the rest of them seemed angrier than even, and out for blood.

The strange wet things stung his eyes again, why did they want to hurt him so much? His gaze hardened. Well let them. The could hurt him all they wanted. But there was no way they were getting to Dib. A sudden wave of protectivness washed over him and he felt sudden strength run through his body. He pulled Dib over to the side of the building, putting him into a sitting position and brushing the hair out of his face softly, his fingertips just barely brushing against the human's face.

Eyes hardening he turned. If they wanted to hurt Dib... his Dib.... they would have to go through him first. Rain falling on his skin, he nearly cired out in pain, burn marks all over his arms and head, small drops falling on his sensitive anteannas and burning them horribly. Steam rose off his skin but he paid no notice. If it was a fight they wanted, it was a fight they were going to get. As they got closer he noticed a few flashes of something metal. Knives.

Waiting until they were nearly upon him, he suddenly leaped up with inhuman speed. It was perfectly logical for him to be faster than a normal human, seeing that he wasn't human himself. He clung to the first one, ripping and biting with his claws and fangs, his crimson eyes flashing like some sort of monster. Biting hard into one of their necks he felt warm blood fill his mouth. He had bit a vein. And it felt good. Spinning off him he stepped in front of Dib, making it perfectly clear that no one was getting to Dib while he was still alive.

Staring at their injured comrade, they looked at the alien. If Zim could see himself at that moment, he would have nealy laughed. Burning red eyes stared out from emerald colored skin. His mouth was open slightly, showing his slightly-fanged teeth. The man's blood trickled from his mouth, leaving a red line down his chin. His antennea fell down his back gracfully as he crouched there. The collar around his neck flashed as he breathed. With the black bands around his wrists and the one band that Dib had given him, in all he looked like an animal. An animal defending something. Defending his master. Like a rabid dog, or like a territorial cat he crouched there, poised to stike at any sudden movements, his eyes wide and unblinking, seeming to glow in the dark night. Steam radiated off his body as the rain fell, filling the air with a slight hissing sound.

Slowly the first guy backed away, his hands up, one of his hands covered in his own blood. It was the guy that Zim had bitten. He had had enough. Turning, he ran. Soon after the rest followed suit, not wanting to be there a second later, all of them spooked out of their minds.

As soon as they were out of sight, Zim turned to Dib, his eyes softening. He crawled over to him, his skin growing numb from the rain, aching horribly. He looked around. Where could he take him? Where could he find shelter?

He drew back slightly, suddenly slipping over to the door of the shop. Surley the guy would help him. He tried to knob and his heart stopped. It was locked. A sign hung in the window like an omen, mocking him to know end.

CLOSED

He pounded on the door in desperation, the helplessness sinking through to his bones and drawing the strength out of him. He needed to get out of the rain! Already small dribbles of blood were starting to form, the rain having compleatly eroded the skin away.

Backing away from the door, he looked around, running back to Dib and past him, another door. He needed another door. Happening to glance at the space in between two buildings nearby, he spotted a door. PIcking Dib up under the arms, he weakly dragged him over, blood running down his slender arms freely. His vision blurred again, not only by the pain for himself, but also by the worry for Dib. How bad was Dib hurt? Blinking angrily, he threw himself against the door, letting out a cry as it opened willingly. Looking around in surprise, he wiped his eyes, managing to get out the general picture of the room, before the wet things took over again, trailing down his cheeks.

There was a tattered matress on the ground. Beer bottles littered the floor and the room had a definate smell of smoke lingering about. The ground was covered with a thick layer of dust that filled the air, making him sneeze as he struggled to the matress. Setting Dib down as gently as he could, he went back to the door and closed it. He looked down, surprised at how wet the doorknob felt. Red liquid covered it and his eyes widened in surprise. BLOOD! Why was there blood on the doorknob? On the inside no less!

Taking his hand away he looked at his arms, wiping his eyes so he could see better. His arms were covered in blood, only a few green patches managing to show through. He whimpered as the pain came. When he didn't see it, it was like it didn't exist. Now that he was seeing it, he realized just how much damage the rain had caused. Striping of his wet shirt, he threw it on the ground, brushing off the braclets and wrist bands, all except for the band that Dib had given him, of course it didn't come off.

Warmth. He and Dib both needed to get warm or else they would get sick. Using his teeth, he cut his shirt into stips, wrapping them around the worse wounds on his skin, using the rest to mop up the blood. His anteannas fell down his back, lifeless and still. He couldn't even find the strength to make his numb digits twitch. He cralwed over to dib, Stripping also of his pants, leaving him in nothing but boxers.

Now for Dib. Even in unconsiousness, Dib was shivering, goosebumps racing up and down his arms. Zim reached down and managed to untagle his arms from his soaked shirt, wincing as the water attacked his hands. Bearing it, he removed Dib's shirt and tossed it on the ground. Now for his pants. A sudden blush ran through Zim, flushing his skin. He shook his head, this wasn't the time for embaresment. It wasn't like he was saving Dib because he liked him.... he was just... repaying him for saving him! Yeah that's it! That was the only reason... wasn't it? Shaking his head, he once again pushed the thought to the side, refusing to think on it. There were more important things.... like how the heck to get Dib's pants off. Struggling with the top button, he finally managed to pull down the zipper and slide his pants off, leaving them both in nothing but boxers.

Looking around, he noticed that the wet things had stopped. He rubbed his eyes curiously. What were those things? Did he have some sort of disease? He knew that humans did it, he had seen it in movies, usually at the end or at a mushy moment, or a sad one. Perhaps it was because he was hurt. That's right, that had to be the reason. He had gotten hurt before and it hadn't happened though.... so why was he doing it now? Did it have something to do with the Dib- human?

Sighing, he reached over, clutching a moth-eaten blanket and pulling it over Dib and himself, curling up against the human. Since his body temperature was higher than a human's, he expected for him to feel colder as he snuggled, but instead he felt himself gradually heat up. Judging by the relaxed expression that settled over the human's face he supposed that the human was warming up as well. His eyes drifted closed. He needed to rest.... it would help him recover...

He let out a yelp as he felt strong, firm arms wrap around him, pulling him close. He looked up to see Dib, still fast asleep, clutching him warmly, pressing his small body against him. He squirmed slightly before sudden serenity settled over him, a warm, safe feeling settling over him better than any blanket. Wrapped in the human's arm he fell asleep, green flesh pressed against cream colored, brathing evenly, wrapped in each other's arms.
