This story is quite beautiful and very sad and also very different from most of the stuff you find on this site.
You capture Mai very well. The ending is terrific and the entire atmosphere is heavy and dark and almost hopeless.

Excellent characterization. I could see Mai staying with Zuko or killing Zuko with the same deadpan expression in her eyes. Sleep or Murder? - a question for the ages.

I was skeptical, at best, in reading anything involving sex and the Avatar characters. I found your story and at first was merely curious to find out who Mai was. Then I read the piece, and now find myself extremely pleased at the reality that a well crafted, believable Avatar fic exsists. Wonderfully done, and very true to the nature of the characters. I applaud your work, and look forward to reading more from you!
