I totally understand what you're saying about an author cherishing her reviews, and because I totally agree with you, and because your story is so long and AWESOME, I think you deserve a long, honest and proper review :

I have finally made it to chapter 43 and I just have to say BRAVO! KATARA is finally back! I'm so happy to see her here and acting like herself. This is truly one of the most well-written, intelligent stories I have ever read. I honestly look forward to reading your other stories (I'm brand new to the fandom) and from what I see, you are the best, hands down. You are talented, GIFTED even, and I hope you never stop. I really want to share some thoughts with you, and I love that you're so willing to read feedback.

I have to be honest (and this is absolutely not a criticism)I was hoping for a redemptive arc for Zuko in terms of how he treats his wife, similar to what happened with the adorable Kuzon. I'm so pissed at Zuko, lol! You've got me emotional! I understand that you have written him as a complicated man and his many layers and his general attitude are intentional. So I think his being a jerk is what you intended. We're coming to the end and he's still pretty much a jerk, and I think you're doing a good job keeping him in character. I've seen so many stories in which a character's personality does a 180 out of nowhere, so this is a sign of superb writing. So in order to change how he treats his wife (he really has treated her badly no matter how much stuff he buys her), he would need to have some lightbulb moment, as he did with Kuzon. I would just love to see something like this.

I know he always makes a big show of telling Miumi/Katara he wants her opinions and that he loves and respects her, but let's face it. This is just talk. This is a man who kidnapped her and essentially blackmailed her father into letting her go. The only thing that has changed is that she has stopped fighting him. I still see him as a kidnapper, and a rapist almost. (What Enki did, kidnapping her, is not much different to what Zuko did, and to be honest, what Zuko did was worse) It's almost like those men who snatch women off the streets and force them into being sex slaves, except Zuko has made her queen and buys her trinkets, which still does not change the fact that she's a prisoner.
He has never admitted to her that his ripping her family apart was wrong, he just kept informing her that she just had to accept it and be grateful and honored for her abduction. And Miumi eventually just rolled over and took it (I think this may be Stockholm Syndrome). So I don't think Zuko has changed at all, it's just that his captive has submitted to his will, so he's calmed down. Yes he speaks to her in a nicer way now, but it's only because he's won, and she has totally submitted to being controlled, mentally and physically by him. He no longer needs to bark commands at her, though he still does it from time to time. Zuko's still posessive, obsessive, contolling and emotionally abusive as ever (which again, I know is your intention.)

Enki was right: Miumi IS still Zuko's prisoner. What little freedom he has conned her into thinking she has, is still within the bounds of his absolute control. Zuko thinks buying her stuff, paying for lessons and saying the words "I love you" equate love, but love also means freedom and respect, which he does NOT give her. (The diary incident is proof that he has no intention of respecting her..I think he's sorry about what he did for now, and the new diary is nice, but I don't think he will ever change how he treats her. He feels ashamed about the baby, but if that never happened he would never have changed his attitude about the diary). I'm hoping that Katara being back will finally force Zuko to treat her like an equal, in deeds, not just words. No more of her rolling over and collapsing to the floor murmuring 'My Lord', no more commanding her into bed, and commanding sex, and if Zu Zu thinks this is what will happen, lol he has another thing coming. I love this story (despite spending 98% of the time being disgusted with Zuko, and with Miumi for simpering and being a meek and mild, willing to be controlled prisoner/wife, occasional flare ups notwithstanding).

I really hope Katara informs him that no matter what sense of entitlement he had, Miumi deserved to be courted and recieve an actual marriage proposal. If Zuko truly loved her and not just desired to immediately possess her, he would have cared enough to woo her, court her entire family and have enough respect to involve them in the wedding. And to actually allow her to go visit them, for Pete's sake, not just dictate that they should leave their homes to come visit her. I doubt he would have been able to pull this crap on Katara. So I'm really hoping Zuko is taught a lesson, that true love means you charm the person and allow them the freedom to enter your life or not, not force them kicking and screaming all the way. Miumi made it too easy for him, and eventually fell for his manipulations, which as I said, is probably Stockholm Syndrome. Katara being back should finally force him to stop being such a selfish, cruel jerk. And her being the strong and bossy Katara we all know and love, Zuko will now be forced to accept BEING commanded instead of giving commands, lol. I think that would be absolute poetic justice.

As I said, you are a gifted writer and the fact that you are able to make me feel all these emotions is a testament to how much of a writing goddess you are. I just wanted to tell you some of my thoughts and to let you know that you NEED to keep it up. As a writer myself, I understand that reviews are our currency, and we are greedy, ;)

First I just wanted to say that I actually read all of your Slow Heat story first but haven't gotten around to reviewing that one yet so I'll keep this about Kiss of Fire. Put simply, your story is amazing. Plot and character development go smoothly and steadily. I never had any feeling that you were rushing the story to get to a certain point or just threw in random characters in the mix to just forget about them later. Your original character are well-rounded from your descriptions and conversations involving them. My favorite part of this story so far was when Enki kidnapped Katara and Kuzon along with the resulting trials. I think this is mostly due to seeing the familiar faces of Toph and Suki during the trials. I just liked how you introduced them and only later provided information as to what had happened to them after the war. Toph and Zuko having a child was a nice touch that I had not expected. A concept of yours that I found enjoyable because of its realistic view would be that the war didn't just suddenly stop and everyone was happy. Old grudges are hard to let go and if people have been fighting in a war for that long I think it is safe to say that quite a few would have problems stopping. A lot of fics I have seen that take place after the war either have an instant peace worldwide (how believable is that honestly) or just never talk about it as they skip quite a few years (it kind of leaves you to make a decision yourself with whether there had been more fighting afterward or not). Now there were parts where I was quite confused at times but you always seemed to clear these up within a chapter or two so I assume it was by design. If I had to pick a least favorite arch of the story it would probably be the fighting for affection Zuko had going on with his son. It wasn't that this was badly written or that the plot was off or anything, I just felt that some of Zuko's actions were a bit over the top. While I can actually understand that he wanted Katara to himself (especially since it was just a short time after he had found her again) I just feel that some of his actions he wouldn't allow himself to do because of his love for Katara. I think I know where you are going with the story (or at least where Katara is heading) now and I must admit that I am curious to see what happens. I assume she is going to talk to Aang and see if it was actually him that intervened somehow when she died or maybe just see if he can find out for sure how she was reincarnated through his touch with the spirit world. I have no idea how he or Sokka will react upon seeing the reincarnated Katara but it will be interesting to see if Aang tries to take her away from Zuko (and both Zuko and Katara's reaction if he tries). Just to let you know that if you want to send me anything in response I am not sure if my e-mail is shown or not but if nothing else I am also on fanfiction.net under the name crossxavier. Well I really enjoyed your story and I look forward to reading more from you.

Hmmmm lemme guess Azula's getting a visitor, I can't wait to see her. I love, love, love the adult backstory you've given them with Aang no longer being the only airbender and Zuko and Toph. It adds such a richness and depth to the story.

Oh and btw coffee gyrl...Azula died from the injuries she sustained when she fought Zuko....So why would you even mention that? That's so stupid. If anything I would guess that she's out to visit Aang...The Avatar (Bridge between human n spirit world) so she can find the answer that both her and Zuko don't know...which could be: How DID Katara get reincarnated? Popular belief states only the Avatar can do so...Hence maybe the Avatar can answer this question....Duh....That's just my guess though lol but Azula as suggestion was just plain dumb...so dumb that I had to mention it....SPLEEF YOU RULE!!!! :)
